"Please keep yours arms, legs and selfie sticks inside the moving ride.
"Disney World is cracking down on the ubiquitous tourist tool, banning the expandable poles from rides at the South Florida attraction.
"Disney’s policy already banned the sticks, but riders kept using them, forcing stoppages several times along the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, according to the Orlando Sentinel." [ link to www.nydailynews.com] The ride mentioned is Disney World's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. It's dangerous to have these long poles poking out from the ride because they could get hung up in the attraction's architecture that gets very close to the rider's body, causing the stick to break off and create a flying projectile at other riders. See one of the architectural features that could cause this problem at the 2:52 mark where rib bones from an archeological animal protrude out very closely over the riders' heads. If you sit behind someone holding their phone at the end of the selfie stick, you're at risk of being hit with a flying projectile when it breaks off in front of you. |
