It was the earthquake. The dam is leaking. They are currently monitoring for silt in the river below the dam.

Its just protocol after a local quake. No link, just knowledge. But it would be a proper explanation, or a cave system under the lake cracked during the quake and filled.

If you look on the webcams for today and yesterday it looks the same.

In a real world, this would be the news making the headlines right now. In the middle of a massive drought to have a sizeable drop in a lake, soon after an earthquake within a 100 miles, well I would consider that news.

I agree, and I agree with Proskiracer on this as well, the two could very well be linked. The quake could have made a rift/leak.
