Ammo Reloading
Once all the panic buying took off a few years ago the shelves were stripped clean. Now after a few years in some cases the ammo supply seems to be rebounding a little bit. I have yet to be able to find a ready supply of .22lr bricks.

Outside of the ammo itself, I am wondering about reloading supplies. There for a while reloading supplies were just as scarce. I eventually found a decent price on primers, and purchased 1000 of each of each caliber that I reload for. Primers for the most part seem to be back on the shelves, but still spotty at times.

But my biggest question is where is the powder? I have yet to find a good supply of powder, in my local area Sportsmans Warehouse was the only place with a good selection of 1 lb and 8 lb kegs of it. So, what is the story with the gunpowder shortage?

Re: Ammo Reloading
Try online places and pay the hazmat fee. Natchez often has good deals on Accurate Powders.

If you are getting loading components for preparedness, might research the manuals and see if some powders are workable for several of your cartridges.

There is an old thread in the archives entitled Survival Guns with lots of commentary some about handloading, and another one, Lester On Survival that has handloading info.

There are a couple of universal powders, especially Unique which is good for almost every handgun ctg even if only to mid-level velocities, shotgun shells, and cast bullets. Varget or Reloader 15 for .223 to .308 ctgs, and the various 4350 powders for magnums. Lots of newer powders out there too, but for preparedness, look for versatility.

Accurate Powders are often sold at great prices, especially by Natchez. Graf & Son, Sinclair Intl, MidSouth, Powder Valley, Bruno's are other resources for wholesale pricing. Try to get the most value out of your hazmat fee. Typically can get primers and powders shipped together.

Might also look at some Lee bullet molds. Can't beat the value and it is easy to cast bullets yourself. Lee makes tools of very good value, sold for 1/3 or less than other loading tool mfrs. They sell some loading "kits" at great price points and if you need a press, scale, priming tool, loading manual etc, can save a lot by buying a kit.

The hazmat fee is what I am trying to avoid. Although, the times I have considered ordering primers and powder online, I do not think I have ever seen where they pack and ship primers and powder together. It seems shipping an ignition source with the powder would not be a very good idea.
