One Eyed Desert Rock
Interested to hear your thoughts on this scenario and the questions below.

It's not a trick question, I just made it up off the top of my head.

There's a rock on the ground in the middle of the desert, and embedded in one side of the rock is a video camera.
This is the rock's 'eye' which looks out horizontally across the ground.
Surrounding the rock not two feet away is a thick sheet of cardboard stood upright which wraps all the way around the rock in a perfect circle, joining seemlessly at the ends behind it.

All along the inside of the card is a panoramic photo of either the same or a different desert, this is all that is and has ever been visible to the rock's eye.

The rock feels no wind, sees no moving life anywhere in it's field of view, and hears no sound. It also never rains.

Furthermore, the sun never moves out off of it's 12 Noon positon, and is never obscured by clouds.

Questions:

1. How many ways can the rock experience time?
2. How many ways can the rock experience the third dimension?

OK OK, for 'experience', read 'observe'.

But not capable of forming a train of thought.

Time is the conceptualization of movement of change through space. Point A and Point B, being subject to relative movement.

In a void, movement is impossible if there is nothing relative to move toward or away from.

Up, down, left, right, over, under, before, after etc..lose all meaning.

Yep. If you can't perceive movement, then you can't perceive time, therefore time is movement.

So the answer to Q1 is it can't.

So the rock has never felt feeling?
If so, then in what sense do we experience
the 3rd? If I could not feel, my eyes image remained
constant, I could not hear, I doubt that it would be
possible to perceive a reality outside your mind, or
that your thoughts are your reality and it would
be much easier to lucid dream/project? A very
interesting question, sorry for the shills/dumbarses on here.

To answer it directly, If its almost like sensory
depriavtion, which is insanely trippy, then
you could only experience what you can
come up with in your head...
But the mind is interesting. I have been able
to simulate feelings and smells before when
i feel really grounded, if you will.
It might be possible to manifest a
perception of 3D if genes were susceptible to
their own time/space realities, which are of
3D in nature, so subconsciously maybe some
part of you understood that there was 'volume' to
things...

I get what you mean, but it's not really sensory deprivation entirely. there are no sounds to hear. Sound is is the movement of vibration through a medium.
So the rock hears no sound because there is no sound to hear in this scenario.

Re: One Eyed Desert Rock
Surely by the virtue of having one eye and not being able to move by any degree in any direction, there can be no way for it to observe any more than 2 dimensions here, no?
