Canada's economic trends follow the US but generally lag about 9-12 months behind. While the US housing market is going into decline many places in Canada are peaking, especially Alberta. Depending on how quickly you want to leave the US, you may have to take quite the hit financially. The free man discovers his potential in service to a commonwealth. We have also looked some in Ontario - prices seem to be higher there though. I own a business that has been in my family since 1925. It's going to be hard to pull the trigger and leave. It will be at least a few years, but we want to get out before our children are draft age! |

The Prime Minister is on record as saying "Canadians will have to get used to the idea of a national ID card." (paraphrased) The likelihood of a draft is slim though if that's your main concern. The economy out there is very shaky though, it would be very difficult to start up a new business there if you were so inclined. There is low population and many leave for lack of work. Lots of work out here on the East Coast for RNs. The provinces will treat here really nice, especially in the rural areas. Nova Scotia is starting to boom from the tech sector. There's oil and gas off shore, but the price to extract it still doesn't make it worthwhile. |
