The newspaper suggests that China will not stop construction of these artificial islands at any cost. Any more interference by "external countries" could trigger a World War 3 and Beijing will "accept" it. Experts say neither United States nor China wants to back down. They fear that even a minor incident around the artificial islands could escalate rapidly into a full-fledged war.

China is on a program of expansionism. They have claimed these man made islands as China's property. These islands are in international waters and they are restricting air and maritime access around these islands. Furthermore, China had declared a shift in its military from land to sea based. They want to use these islands as military installations and not for science and research. All very provocative. These islands act like a permanent aircraft carriers and their deep ports can be used for re-supply of offensive military hardware...

It doesn't take a rocket scientists to determine that these are staging points for an offensive attack on either Taiwan or Japan...

These islands are formed on coral reef, if the Chinese tunneled into that reef, they could make an underground base that would be impervious to conventional attack...

Just think of an unsinkable aircraft carrier stationed off your homeland....

The Spratly Islands in the South China Sea belong to the Philipenes, not China.

China is building artificial islands (dredging sand from international waters) planting a flag on it and then claims an economic exclusion zone around the artificial island so they can drill oil.

There is nothing regarding the artificial islands created by China that gives them the right to make a claim of exclusion in international waters.

So - with regards to China's threat of WW3 - the US Navy needs to play it cool until after 2013, when President AnybodybutObama will respond by building an artificial island of our own and claiming it as a US Territory.

Isn't China meddling with its neighbors' affairs? Please get a map and look at the location of those military bases China is building.

It's about time this comes to light, while the world has been distracted with the Ukraine and ISIS... China has nearly uncontested illegally and with intimidation expanded their ADIZ areas and now these artificial military installations.

China has been getting ready for war for quite some time now and it looks like they mean business.

But meh... nukes will still erase China from the planet so maybe they should also think three times before they speak.

There won't be much to speak about after the war is fought but at least we'll have the stone age back again.
