I have so many questions.. but first of all why is it called Snuff Puppet??

Our philosophy of ideas comes from birth, sex and death – generally a dark edge on the circle of life. When we were working in Canberra we saw groups of young artists being radical, trying to make big things, we had a visual of the newly built Parliament house being stormed. At this time we were doing shows with fire and smoke and the idea of a puppet being burnt at the Parliament house gave us the name Snuff Puppets.

this is hi art - i went to this festival. melbourne prides itself on being culturally richer than other australian cities. if this is potentially dirsturbing for young kids then the parents should do the right thing and not expose them to this.

It's got to be friends and relatives of the performers to act so happy seeing that with the kids. I'm sure they say "this is what art is supposed to do..to make people uncomfortable and start a conversation". I'm so tired of artist just trying to evoke a strong emotion , no matter what that emotion is. So dumb!

I've tripped my ass off in some third-world backwater weird ass places, but if I ever gained consciousness at a scene like this I don't know how I'd react.

If this disturbs you you've never seen what "contemporary" art looks like, or what they'll have you believe it looks like nowadays


During my studies as a graphic design master I had to learn about all kinds of "avant-garde" stuff that was going on like 10 years go, and this is nothing in comparison


I'll assume this is some kind of art project, it always kinda disturbs me when children are involved since this is MORE than likely on the parents rather than the people who made this "scultpture" for lack of better words.


But I've seen installations where people fake murder scenes with real blood and get themselves covered in it (sounds more like psycho than art to me tbh), people getting themselves slowly covered in blood while sitting under a dripping bag of it, self-harming, etc etc etc


I sometimes think that thanks to the techno age we are reaching a point where "originality" not longer exists and it's seemingly all just a random mix of what's been done before, trying to up the ante to get noticed. Gone are the days where an awesome hand crafted puppet gets you any attention, nope, you need a monster puppet squirting milk at kids after giving birth to a baby!


It's what I thought after seeing all those other nasty art projects too, and I'm not sure what to think of it
