Anonymous Coward User ID: 63545647 United States 06/02/2015 02:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In North America, this is the BIG doom that I feel is most likely. If I lived between Northern California and Vancouver Island Canada, I would have a mountain bike with all the luggage carrying capacity I could bolt on to it. And I would load it with all the stuff needed to bicycle my way out of the area. West is the only direction to go, so I would plan a route to the west. The damage this earthquake will do to Portland and Seattle and surrounding areas is unimaginable. |

It won't be "hundreds of years," you're just talking out of your ass. |

In the event of the maximum cascadia earthquake, bicycles and feet are about the only way to travel. I believe it will be quicker to walk or bike out to the EAST, what I should have said was head EAST. East is the only direction to travel. I was thinking EAST but typed west. So Sorry! The bridges will be down, but hopefully there will be someone helping get people across rivers you can't walk or carry a bike across. |

But Cascadia is a cool doom theory. WHEN it DOES happen, if its the max possible earthquake, where the entire fault slips or multiple nearby faults slip, it will be like a 1,200 mile long zipper, taking 8 to 14 minutes to zip from one end to the other. And the shaking will last for 3 to 5 minutes in any given area above the fault. The LAST time Cascadia let one rip in 1700, the tsunami it produced killed people in Japan! |

With that rebound of the ground maybe 10 to 15 feet, even standing on open ground would be hard. It'd be like being on the worst trampoline ever. |
