Re: Let's bring pipe tobacco smoking back...
...

Yeah, I've been watching quite a few of StogieFarts' and Jay Dagner/dagnerperformance's vids. I used to smoke cigarettes years ago, 7 years in total, but stopped after they put the fire-safe chemicals in them. Since then, I've smoked Black & Mild Wine's off and on, and have a huge cigar box full of nasal snuff of various flavors. I like the nasal snuff, but I just don't get the same satisfaction as I do "smoking". Pipe tobacco, it's rituals, and the unique individuality of each tobacco+pipe combination are far more appealing.

Narc, thanks for reminding me- I was just thinking that I need to grab a couple of cob pipes so I can give my briar's more time to rest between smokes.

I highly recommend doing some research on pipe smoking and it's related tobaccos; you won't regret it.

What kind of pipes do you have OP, I was smoking some older kaywoodies and other cheaper pipes, I just got a sweet Randy Wiley and I love it.

Right now, I have a Dr. Grabow Freehand bent and a Dr. Grabow textured. I wanted to make sure this was something I can see myself keeping as a hobby long-term before I dropped money on a really nice pipe. I also found a nice rosewood F.E.S.S. pipe on Amazon, but I've found a few reports of people getting sick from Rosewood pipes. I don't understand how anyone could sell those if that was the case?

My first good pipe will probably be a Savinelli or Peterson egg-shaped pipe. The black ones with the rustication on the outside, bent of course. I also will be picking up a couple of the MM cobs to have in rotation.

Good stuff OP, it's definitely a nice way to spend some down time. I jjust got a bunch of chickens and I let them roam around the property while I smoke and enjoy a nice beer.

I love the smell of pipe tabacco.

Really wish more men would smoke pipes, the scent is wonderful.

So...I've been making my own smokes with tubes, a cigarette packer and tobacco. Turns out I've been smoking pipe tobacco for the last year instead of cigarette tobacco (bad advice from the store). My lungs are screwed. It was cheap however. $7.33 per carton. OMG. I'm going down the cancer road.

lol

What type of tobacco are you using now?

What was your reaction like when you found out you had been smoking pipe tobacco?

Pipe tobacco if vaping wasn't invented. Fast way to get anti-inflammatory nicotine into the blood.

Anything with a cigarette, just fall asleep in the highway at 3 in the morning. Better off.

Re: Let's bring pipe tobacco smoking back...
Lot's of people will use what is called "pipe tobacco" but is actually rolling tobacco.

If they label it pipe tobacco, then they pay less taxes.

So you'll have to find a roll your own tobacco producer who works with organics and you might see people reviewing his "pipe tobacco" by rolling it in a cigarette.

Look for more and maybe ask around or ask online and you'll find (supposedly) some clean rolling tobacco labeled as pipe tobacco.

Now if it's just pipe tobacco, yea, it will have more tar and not something you'll want to puff and inhale everyday.

Re: Let's bring pipe tobacco smoking back...
I'm absolutely frigged out. The actual cigarette tobacco is priced much higher (found out elsewhere..much later), but the smoke store assured me that pipe tobacco is the same thing. OH NO....it's not! It's thicker and wetter. Especially during wetter seasons.

The regular cigarette tobacco is $26.00 per bag. Pipe is about 15.

The cough is not worth it. I'm ready to quit altogether.

I could see my self getting into that. It's classy. You ever have that friend who smoked weed out of a corn cob pipe? Yeah.

I'd jump on that trend.

My grandson does not think it is classy for his grandma to smoke the corn cob pipe, neither do others, but I do not care. I smoke alone........ because I would rather be by myself.

A few months. I usually smoke about 3-5 times a week. I find I appreciate life just a bit more by waching the sun rise while puffing away on a bowl of a high quality aromatic.

I dunno, I don't dress any sort of way or attempt to stand out. However, I do find mainstream shit and "trends" to be laughable and sheepish, which makes me appreciate the dying arts and hobbies that much more. I flyfish as well- everyone needs to try that at least once, it may just change your life.

Re: Let's bring pipe tobacco smoking back...
Your thoughts?

It is very dissimilar to cigarette smoking. The tobacco's are usually flavored and/or blended, rather than being sprayed or mixed with chemicals and unnatural additives. Also, you do not inhale pipe tobacco the same as you do cigarettes. I find that I enjoy it a few times a week, very rarely, more than once a day. I didn't pick up this hobby until I was 31- either I'm getting old or I'm some sort of pseudo-hipster, I can't decide which.

Pipe smoking is still big. I started smoking two years ago. There are videos about it all over YouTube.

You don't have a Kaywoodie streamliner do you? Those are awesome. I've been smoking pipe since 17 and I'm 33 now. I smoke it every now and then when I want to relax.

Pipe good. It emit Smoke of Liberty. Crop that build America.

And I suggest a gathering, somewhere, to discuss the issues of the present-day, while we enjoy a good brier-ful.

You can still get mouth and throat cancer. I smoke and will probably die from it but I already lived a long fucking time. I enjoy a pipe every once in a while. I just ordered some Prince Albert cherry tobacco. Good shit Maynard!

Love a good smoke, I have played with several pipes in my time, have about 5 now, rarely use them because good tobacco is hard to get where i'm at, but my favorite pipe is a churchwarden type that I picked up at a trade days flea market, love the way the smoke cools in the long stem, seems more comfortable to hold also..

I smoke a big Churchwarden made of meerschaum, typically loaded with Dunhill flake. It is an hour long process from packing in the leaf to ash. Meditative and slow, unlike cigs or vaping which are more similar to crack.
