Edgar Cayce: Ordinary Man, Extraordinary Messenger
Edgar Cayce: Ordinary Man, Extraordinary Messenger

By Mitch Horowitz

The year 1910 marked a turning point in Western spirituality. It saw the deaths of some of the most luminous religious thinkers of the nineteenth century, including psychologist-seeker William James; popular medium Andrew Jackson Davis; and Christian Science founder Mary Baker Eddy. These three figures deeply impacted the movements in positive thinking, prayer healing, and psychical research.

Their death that year was accompanied by the rise to prominence of a new religious innovator—a figure who built upon the spiritual experiments of the nineteenth century to shape the New Age culture of the dawning era. In autumn of 1910 The New York Times brought the first major national attention to the name of Edgar Cayce, a young man who later became known as the “father of holistic medicine” and the founding voice of alternative spirituality.

The Sunday Times of October 9, 1910 profiled the Christian mystic and medical clairvoyant in an extensive article and photo spread: “Illiterate Man Becomes a Doctor When Hypnotized.” At the time Cayce (pronounced “Casey”), then thirty-three, was struggling to make his way as a commercial photographer in his hometown of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, while delivering daily trance-based medical “readings” in which he would diagnose and prescribe natural cures for the illnesses of people he had never met.

Cayce’s method was to recline on a sofa or day bed, loosen his tie, belt, cuffs, and shoelaces, and enter a sleeplike trance; then, given only the name and location of a subject, the “sleeping prophet” was said to gain insight into the person’s body and psychology. By the time of his death in January 1945, Cayce had amassed a record of more than 14,300 clairvoyant readings for people across the nation, many of the sessions captured by stenographer Gladys Davis.

In the 1920s, Cayce’s trance readings expanded beyond medicine (which nonetheless remained at the core of his work) to include “life readings,” in which he explored a person’s inner conflicts and needs. In these sessions Cayce employed references to astrology, karma, reincarnation, and number symbolism. Other times, he expounded on global prophecies, climate or geological changes, and the lost history of mythical cultures, such as Atlantis and Lemuria. Cayce had no recollection of any of this when he awoke, though as a devout Christian the esotericism of such material made him wince when he read the transcripts.

Contrary to news coverage, Cayce was not illiterate, but neither was he well educated. Although he taught Sunday school at his Disciples of Christ church—and read through the King James Bible at least once every year—he had never made it past the eighth grade of a rural schoolhouse. While his knowledge of Scripture was encyclopedic, Cayce’s reading tastes were otherwise limited. Aside from spending a few on-and-off years in Texas unsuccessfully trying to use his psychical abilities to strike oil—he had hoped to raise money to open a hospital based on his clairvoyant cures—Cayce rarely ventured beyond the Bible Belt environs of his childhood.

Since the tale of Jonah fleeing from the word of God, prophets have been characterized as reluctant, ordinary folk plucked from reasonably satisfying lives to embark on missions that they never originally sought. In this sense, if the impending New Age—the vast culture of Eastern, esoteric, and therapeutic spirituality that exploded on the national scene in the 1960s and ’70s— was seeking a founding prophet, Cayce could hardly be viewed as an unusual choice, but, historically, as a perfect one.

Cayce said that each planet in our solar system represents a dimension were the soul can dwell
(earth is the third dimension/3d reality)

Cayce also said as science moves forward many current scientific theories will be proven wrong, this is proven with such things as quantum mechanics/parallel universes/dark matter

Cayce was a conman.. Do some research. He worked in a library and was an avid reader with a photographic memory. All he did was mumble in his sleep about whatever he'd read. When his friend wrote down what he said in his sleep cayce decided he was psychic and advertised readings in the paper to make some dollars. He never had any success as a psychic. No one had any of his predictions come true so he gave out nothing but medical advice that he got from books.. He got a following because some of his medical advice worked. He had zero success predicting the future.

Re: Edgar Cayce: Ordinary Man, Extraordinary Messenger
I think he figured out that Castor Oil -moves- lymph fluid in a noticeable way; (especially noticeable if a person is congested)
For example, my personal experience has been: being toxic and congested at a point in my life- using the protocol of castor oil packs over the liver-thymus-spleen, I began with the thymus.
A couple days after this first thymus pack, I became extremely fatigued, and broke out with several boils on the torso.
3 days later, had a cleansing bowel movement, and a all was better.
This indicated to me that the liver ( comprised of large percentage of lymph) was congested, and the castor oil "moved" the toxins in my lymph system too quickly for the liver to detoxify, so they backed up and came out of the skin; all the while poisoning other parts of the system and making me sick.
I think 80% of what is wrong with people is toxic congestion, and when we get detoxed, the body uses it's own intelligence to correct the ills.
This can be seen as a miracle; I know that it did to me.

So he prescribed CO packs often, and often got results.

Re: Edgar Cayce: Ordinary Man, Extraordinary Messenger
bump for awareness of spirituality. Science and spirituality will merge one day, a much more will understood then.

I too resonate very well with his talk about each planet is another dimension's manifestation that we can only interpret from our own dimension. Hence why the planets seem the way they do to us in a 3rd dimensional state.. Rudolf Steiner's Biodynamics and Eastern medicine's correlation of elements to these other dimensional planetary bodies makes an even more complete picture.

A good friend's sister said for the first two or three years of her young life she claimed she was from Jupiter. Makes so much sense now, as jupiter is the purifier, embodies the element of fire, and is said by Cayce to be the dimension for a soul to start over, get a clean/fresh slate.. she is super sensitive and easy to overwhlem, kinda like a soul who is just beginning after an intense purification/fresh start..

Awesome thread, thanks for sharing Cayce's name and experiences!

Cayces autobiography talks a lot about the powers of the subconscious mind, how in the past souls on earth had god like powers, telepathy, telekinesis, the abilty to travel by thought and powers greater than that, cayce said the souls destiny is to be reunited with God!

Edgar Cayce was one of the greatest gifts given to the human race. Back in the 70's I started reading about him and his abilities starting with the book Many Mansions. If you can start with this one you will be amazed. Everything along those lines I have read since pales in comparison. After all these years all facets of his abilities are touted by others who try to compare themselves to him. No one comes close as he was a conduit tapping into the Universal Knowledge.

He was no fake by any stretch of the imagination. Read what you find on him especially his words as they came from him during his trances. Incredible.

Read Many Mansions....don't take the word of someone who probably wanted to be like him. The words and knowledge that came from him were beyond any one human intellect. Cayce himself was practically illiterate when his ability was first brought forward. Make up your own mind. Read about him for yourself. Don't let the disenchanted of another make up your mind for you.

Cayce brought forth information that is useful to all and it is about much more than medical remedies. But then of course you could ask someone else instead of relying on your own discernment. Duhhhhhhh

I used to be into all of that stuff and experienced astral projection. When I accepted Jesus as my Savior, to this day, the devil has not stopped trying to kill me. Be very careful. When you work for the enemy, he's nice until he's finished with you. But if you give your life to Jesus, he will retaliate quickly. Fortunately, I'm protected by Almighty God.

When you meditate on things, you should not lose consciousness. If you do then you are being controlled and God never seeks to control our words or movements. He is ultimately in control but our thoughts and words are our own. So Edgar Cayce should have stopped what he was doing immediately after the first time and renounced the power of darkness. He may have been a Christian but it doesn't appear that he had a relationship with Jesus or was born again.

If I remember correctly he stated that we have past lives. Apparently, if that is at all true, God must not want us to know it and why would he? We wouldn't remember the former life. Anyway, the Bible says "absent from the body, present with the Lord". So it's not for us to know anything else. There is no purpose to coming back unless God gives us another chance to surrender our lives to Him, but Jesus never mentioned any "second chances" and when I used to believe in past lives, I finally realized how useless it is. It would be like going back to childhood and trying to do things differently without bringing the knowledge you've gained so far, back with you. Sure there are child geniuses but they are gifted people. If they were here before, they have no memory of it. So what if they brought a talent with them? It doesn't mean anything.

BE VERY CAREFUL. YOU ARE DEALING WITH THE DEVIL IN THEOSOPHY, NEW AGE, ROSICRUCIANISM, ETC. HE WILL ENSLAVE YOU AND EVENTUALLY DESTROY YOU WHEN HE NO LONGER HAS A NEED FOR YOU.

Yes, they are back. If you werent so nasty you wouldnt attract them.

Much of Cayces stuff turned out to be truth

If you demand you hear from ONLY 100% white light beings, nothing evil can come through. The only evil is what you attract with your own resonance - the higher your resonance, the higher the beings you attract

I trust his channeled stuff more than your confused repetitive negative rants
