This is how I read the sacred books, & particularly the Bible: as if I stood before a sky whose stars illuminated & permeated my entire life

When I want to explain an important point to you about the spiritual life, I often rely on the Bible, and especially the Gospels. But in fact I do not attach an absolute value to the words of these texts. To use an image, I would say that I read the Bible in the same way I contemplate the starry sky, for the starry sky is a book which speaks not only to our intellect but also to our soul and spirit. We are instructed by a light that surpasses us, a light that orients our thoughts, our feelings and our actions. Those of you who learn to gaze at the stars with love, who meditate on cosmic harmony and on these lights that have come such a distance in time and space, travel by way of thought through the spiritual regions that exist within you as well.
