William Wordsworth And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God. John F. Kennedy Inaugural Address Lincoln's economic advisor Henry C. Carey explained the universal issue in his 1851 Harmony of Interests: "Two systems are before the world.... One looks to pauperism, ignorance, depopulation, and barbarism; the other to increasing wealth, comfort, intelligence, combination of action, and civilization. One looks towards universal war; the other towards universal peace. One is the English system; the other ... the American system, for ... elevating while equalizing the condition of man throughout the world." "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 39927871 Iceland 06/13/2015 09:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | interesting but there are only 15 people living in Iceland so it's not a good case study Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67637065 lol Iceland is in many ways similar to the United states, it is like a micro model of USA. The US has 300 million people, we have 330.000 Iceland actually never defaulted on anything. The banks were actually privately owned and no state guarantee on any of their commitments. There was a brief rescue attempt in the first days of the crisis, A QE type cash for trash support operation for several financial entities, and a 500 million Euro emergency loan to Kaupthing bank. This almost bankrupted the state owned central bank. Trying to save the banking system would have been insane, forking money into a bottomless pit is idiotic, and only a halfwit would persist in such blatant idiocy. There has been intense pressure from the public to bring those responsible to justice and considerable progress has been made. I suspect that those who thought they were untouchable, above and beyond the law ordinary people are subjected to see the world differently now. |

This reminds me of the old joke, "What do you call 100 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?" "A good start." Good show, Iceland! "Expecting DOOM since 1999." |

This reminds me of the old joke, "What do you call 100 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?" "A good start." Good show, Iceland! The only sense was to just take the hit and let the banks crash. Everything that was done in the western world has actually made matters worse. All those stimulus experiments, multiple QE operations, the twist and all kinds of nonsense has done nothing but screw up the stock markets and bond markets so no one really knows what anything is really worth anymore. Its odd to see how the federal reserve, who is a privately owned entity, can mire the US state and its citizens in debt they produce out of thin air to help a small number of scumbags rig the stock market. I wonder if this can be legal ? I suspect that after the next crash there will be a more sensible and civilized approach used to deal with the issue. Many bankruptcies, and big ones. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69500178 Iceland is no longer applying for EU membership, so immigration is limited to the needs of the economy as it has been in the past. Those who immigrate need to have a job, or go to school or do something productive. The vast majority of immigrants seem to have no problems becoming a part of Icelandic society. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 39927871 Iceland 06/14/2015 09:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Iceland is in many ways similar to the United states, it is like a micro model of USA. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 39927871 Oh your population is 12% black, 40% hispanic and you don't imprison any bankers for fraud and let jews control your media and government? Cool. Iceland is a western style society, influenced by US in many ways. I suppose we have cherry picked the positive elements out of American culture and left out the negative parts. Like, there has never been any military in Iceland and foreign policy is generally a peaceful one. Capital punishments were outlawed a long time ago, the last execution took place in 1830. The police is generally unarmed and only once in its history the armed special forces within the police shot someone and killed. There is a strong constitution in the country and it is fiercely defended by the citizens, amendments and other changes to this constitution are not easy. The public applies intense pressure on the justice system to make sure everyone gets the same treatment, this is not a optimal system for some bankers and politicians who rely on a more flexible system. The public keeps the parliament in check, if they try to pull something dangerously stupid, then they are taken behind the old wood shed for a lesson about honesty and morals. I suppose those issues are somewhat different than what you might see in the US. |

If the law doesn't apply to everyone, we have no rule of law. To restore our country, we must return to a FREE PRESS, jail the bankers and try most of our government for treason. |
