Re: Yellowstone 3mg Quake?
The USGS has yet to register any quake (worldwide or local) which accounts for it, however...

...as these slices show, just before 11:36 am MT (18:36 UTC) SOMETHING was noted here and there in the Park, minutes before the Lake was rattled hard [link to www.isthisthingon.org]

I'm goinf to check Montana and Utah to start, and then see if I can figure how the rest of the Park reacted...

i'll be back

That's too late for the one that hit the Lake, but might just be the one we keep seeing around 19:22ish and later.

There's a good deal of ongoing activity in Montana, Oregon, Washington, Utah and Idaho; many helicorder sites seem to be much more active than any 'craziness' we are seeing at Yellowstone.

It's possible that the 4.2 in Oklahome is what we are seeing registering in all of those states, centered somewhere around 19:24 UTC.

I thought it was coming from the West OUTSIDE the Park, since it seems to be recording on the West side of the park earlier, BUT, the East side seems to be hit harder. How it would have come East from Oklahoma, but register sooner on the west side of the Park is a mystery.

[link to www.isthisthingon.org]

The first is one of the only traces that seem to show the esrlier 'event' registered in the Park at various minutes after 18:30 UTC, while some MT traces seem to have even earlier activity. Every trace below records the later event:

Indian Springs, UT, at the SW corner of Utah, near NV [link to www.quake.utah.edu]

CoosBay, OR, all the way West of the Park, on the Pacific coast: [link to pnsn.org]

Summer Lake, OR far West of the Park:
[link to pnsn.org]

Seattle, WA [link to pnsn.org]

Port Alberni, BC Vancouver Island: [link to pnsn.org]

Camp Tracy, Salt Lake City UT [link to www.quake.utah.edu]

Trail MT, Utah, right in the Middle of Utah: [link to www.quake.utah.edu]

Flagg Ranch, WY in the far South area of the Park: [link to www.isthisthingon.org]

Long Hollow, Grand Teton Park, WSW of the Park: [link to www.quake.utah.edu]

Greycliff MT, just north of the park [link to mbmgquake.mtech.edu]

Chrome Mountain, MT, also North of the NE corner of the Park.

[link to mbmgquake.mtech.edu]

Seeley Lake, MT, far NW of the Park [link to mbmgquake.mtech.edu]

Anyway, there's a lot of activity on helicorders, even without the Oklahoma event:

4.2 mag 20km W of Perry, Oklahoma 2015-06-17 19:17:08 UTC5.0 km

Good search morgan! Oklahoma quake is the red trace.

The speed and the strenght of the waves depend on the ground (rock, water, faults, magma).
The magma is to the east and the waves travel slower in the magma.

Have any of you see the earthquake swarm from the 14th at Yellowstone. The only way I found it on USGS was to look at all magnitude quakes for the past 7 days. It never showed all these on a daily basis, but setting the filters like that they show up. The were all centered at Shashone(sp?) Lake.

I'll have to look. One thing I've realized is it usually takes a while for the USGS to parse the Parks seismograms. If you consider just Old Faithful, the traces seem to pick up many of the regular eruptions...and the park is FULL of these.

I just checked my notes for last Sunday (the 14th) around 10 am EST when I wrote that the Park seemed awfully dry, with less 'wet' activity at the geysers: "What is the possibility that EQ's in MT & ID of late have slowed the flow of subterranean waters, compromising the plumbing in the Park. Time to check the traces."

Then later in the day, it seemed to be getting back to normal.

__________

I just looked. Wow. There's 35 EQ's in a diagonal line from below the Lake going NW through Idaho and into Montana, all the up to Seeley Lake! Of course this is over the span of seven days, but of the 14 in the Park, almost all of them were in the early hours of Sunday morning.

I guess this is why I had not seen them on the traces.

Thanks for noticing that.

I read (on that site) that if there is an actual earthquake in Yellowstone, that it shows on all the seismographs - here is an example from Jan 7, 2004 - [link to isthisthingon.org]

Hmm. I thought only three had to show it, but then again, that could be why so few events that I think I may be seeing do not get labeled a quake.

On another note, those greens and reds on the traces the day after "Little Christmas" reminded me of all the Christmas trees, having finally been taken down, now laying on their sides all over the place outside people's houses. Yes, I have a vivid imagination.

You need to follow the Yellowstone thread
Thread: YELLOWSTONE UPDATES (2014) : ... Strange things happening @ Yellowstone... (Page 183)

At least i post everything relevant to have it all together

About this activity (i think we talk about the same place) you will find some info in Simple's thread on the earthquakes here
