A good reason Not to drink from a garden hose

My wife used a hose brought in from an outside spigot to fill our new shower pan with water to do an overnight test and in the morning one of these (horsehair worms) was floating and squirming around in the water.

it seems they get eaten by crickets and such then cause the "host" to commit suicide, then they bore a hole out of its body mate and lay eggs and die and start all over again.
