Flash and Firefox Issues Finally Resolved! ...most likely
I just installed an Add-on for FireFox called HTML 5 player.
Less Resolution but fast and smooth so far.

Link: [link to addons.mozilla.org (secure)]

I also installed The NoScript Firefox extension
GLP is remarkably faster and no lag at all.

Link: [link to noscript.net (secure)]

I am in IT and though it is too early to be able to conclude for certain, I am pretty sure this will solve our problems with flash and Firefox and YouTube.

The only downside is lower resolution with the HTML5 player. It supports 360p and 720p currently but there is a beta release that supports 4k so more than likely this will be a non-issue soon.

NoScript has really impressed me. GLP for example loads far quicker and my experience on GLP has been greatly improved.
Finally! Browsing is pleasant again. There are other very similar alternatives to NoScript but not as highly rated.

There is a slight learning curve as in you have to configure certain options on site by site basis or page by page.
Not difficult though. Operations such as posting on GLP will require allowances in the options menu at the bottom of Firefox.

No malware or adware in these so you have nothing to lose.

Post back and so we can determine if this might be a good solution for everyone who is having problems.

I didn't say that I didn't know what they were. The last time I looked for a resolution to the flash issues I have been having I mistakenly only focused on graphics driver and Adobe flash issues. I guess that over the years flash has generally worked so well that I overlooked a plug-in alternative.

I think it has only been 2 or 3 months since YouTube switched to HTML5 I am going to give myself a pass...

I am using what is arguably the last true ThinkPad that was made around when IBM sold out to Lenovo. Even though this laptop is a bit dated, it was badass when I bought it and it is still going strong.

There are graphics driver issues with Windows 8.1 however.
And it pisses me off too because I know that is just a tactic to try and force me to buy a new PC. So in a way I guess it is my way of protesting.

Anyway, there are no viruses in this add-on dude.

Thanks for looking out...

Have you managed to get any driver to install yet or is it using the no driver "standard vga" in device manager?

If you have not had a driver install yet, i can tell you it is indeed possible through a little tweaking of the driver inf to get a windows xp driver to install on 8.1 even for out dated vga chips.

Yeah thanks. I know exactly what you are talking about. I am using a modded driver for Vista x64. My graphics card is ATI V5250 equivalent to the ATI X1700 with 256 megs DDR Ram and Windows 8.1 x64.

So everything is still snappy. The only issue that I have had is this freaking flash thing. If I knew how to write graphics drivers, I could probably get another 3 years out this thing....

a lot of ati CPU's have a bug in that they dont run at the correct clock speed on 8.1, compare what you are getting using a prorgam like "cpu-z" with what the specs of the laptop say the speed should be. its a bug with the power saving throttling. also make sure that in control panel that power settings are set to full perfromance it also throttles cpu. there is a utility to get the amd cpu running at its proper clock rate on boot. fyi.

Well though I am tempted to research this for you and find out your hardware and software specs. I am not going to start a help desk thread. Search it out for yourself and read what some of the possible problem/resolution combinations are.
It could be something really simple.

AMD CPU not GPU im assuming since you have ati gpu your cpu might be amd too with it being a laptop.

the reason your gpu is so damn slow with video is that its not utilising any hardware acceleration. its all running in slow software mode.

disable services anything and everything you dont absolutely need to get that extra bit of speed. of course use start is back to get metro out of memory.

Yes, I did cure my Stage 4 cancer in two weeks when I was 48. I also reversed my chronic kidney disease (glomerulonephritis) when I was 25. In neither case were any medical treatments involved.
