Road trip through WA and OR, advice?

I'm going to take the family on a little road trip. We've never seen WA or OR so I'm looking for your input. We plan to hit Medford, OR Portland, OR and Seattle WA along the way.

Any things I should look for or perhaps more importantly, anything I should avoid?
