Dr. Astro Senior Forum Moderator User ID: 38777359 United States 06/27/2015 09:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So ASTRO, Quoting: Prophet Daniel How come this nebula (Hercolubus) as you say changes its apparent magnitude? Looks way closer than in 1957. It is not "Hercolubus." If you mean the nebula's literal apparent magnitude, T Tauri stars are variables, and a reflection nebula is just like it sounds; the light of the nebula is a reflection of the parent star, a T Tauri star in this case. Nevertheless, the older and the more recent image were shot with different exposure times and different film emulsions, so you can't directly compare the brightness. The image from 1951 was shot with a xx103aE emulsion + plexi filter over 50 minutes and the image in 1990 was shot with a IIIaF emulsion + RG610 filter over 70 minutes. And no, it is not "way closer than in 1957." The size and position have not changed. Here is an animation of the two shots from 1951 (where it looks brighter) and the image from 1990: :GN05392: |
The Uncle User ID: 68846668 United States 06/27/2015 09:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why would they suddenly allow planet x, niburu, to be seen on all the sky view sites after years of being blacked out? My theory is that these recent views are doctored to look like planet x is a long way from earth. They want us to think that we are not in any immediate danger. Quoting: dancing sun 42128772 OH YES. The proverbial "they". You have solved the mystery. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15534338 who said it's disinfo?...i never been up in space, just because someone tells me its round, why should I believe that? sure i could be schooled on all the reasons it has been proven to be round, but if i can't see it for myself, then i'm just using data that someone else came up with. Facts are facts regardless of who first realized them. Flat earth disinfo spam is not welcome on this private website. End of story. Facts are facts until scientists discover new facts. Dumbass. Facts are stubborn things, as is the shape of the earth, dumbass. |

Quoting: NODOOM I mean the flat earth threads are deleted straight away. This is no difference in the repetitiveness! wait...why delete the flat earth posts?? Because it's deliberate disinfo designed to drag down this site's ranking in google's new search algorithm. No I take it back, it's not even disinfo, it's spam. The objective is to spam "the earth is flat" "facts" onto this and other sites as often as possible to drag down the rankings and make it sound like conspiracy theorists all believe the world is flat. This is a conspiracy site, not a damn academic journal. If you trying to improve the quality you would delete the "my nutz smell like a-one sauce", or "my wife cheating on me" or "I am cheating on my wife" or the daily variant of gossipy bullshit that clutters the front page and isn't at all related to a conspiracy theory. But like it or not, the flat earth threads are actually related to a conspiracy theory. The key word being THEORY, however improbable. |

You decide. - - - - - University of YouTube video strikes again! Just curious, do you have a degree in Meteorology? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69366764 I do not wish to argue with anyone and would just like to make the following general statement before I take my leave: It's bad moderation policy to sensor a ludicrous conspiracy theory based off of fears from an even more ludicrous conspiracy. I am unaware of any objective evidence that threads pertaining to flat earth theories in any abnormal way effects the algorithm that ranks websites in google rankings. Even if this were the case, I believe Google ranks individual threads, meaning individual threads would get buried based on individual content and not GLP as a whole. I will now take my leave. Anything posted by astronutsack is disinfo. Sorry, dude... Astro is the sanest dude on this site. You're confusing "disinfo" with "facts". |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69127335 PLANET X - NIBIRU Crop Circles Tell ARRIVAL Date & Its NOT GOOD NEWS 2015 Peace Very interesting calculations in this video, but I feel their reasoning is off as to the interpretation of 1 meter. They say this represents 1 week. I feel it should be a lunar month, which is always 28 days, so the outcome of 29 days and 10 hours would have to be multiplied by four. Please watch this video and comment. Personally I don't know if I believe in basing calculations on crop circles, but it's an interesting premiss, so just go along with it and see what you think. My comment is in the quote just above^^^. |

No, google sky is not mocking youtubers. This has been identified and explained about a hundred times now. It's a T Tauri star and reflection nebula. It is not in the missing region of Google sky, it's over 28 degrees away from that region. The reflection nebula is GN 05.39.2 in the Atlas of Galactic Nebulae. There are images of it going back to at least 1951 and it isn't moving. It also isn't unique, many T Tauri stars have reflection nebulae associated with them and some are even nearly identical.
