Victim was a doctor in an emergency department and his family. Were they victims of sabotage to their airplane or is this just a case of poor maintenance on the engine that caused the crash?

Hole in the crankcase means it wont run long, so it happened in the air.

im an [email protected] tech. a hole in the crankcase means it threw a rod or broke crank. it happens on cars every day. it happens in the air more than you would think. engines have periodic teardowns at x amount of hours. it just came apart before the inspection cought it. shit happens

Whomever rebuilt it the last time could be responsible for improper torque. It could have run out of oil. Could be a part failure. Wasn't bad luck. There is a reason.

That's why they teach you to make emergency landings in suitable locations, like an empty field or road, not on the top of somebody's house.

Guy must have freaked and stalled the plane instead of staying level-headed and gliding it down.

I like flying small planes but as a rule never take up a bunch of your friends or your entire family because there is always the chance that you will die

Sometimes, while being manufactured, these production associates who are only on the job for some quick club/crack money will drop.. oh, I don't know?... Let's say and earring... or a bolt.. into the crankcase. Then it blows a hole through said crankcase while in use.

threw / broke a connecting rod

rod and or piston blows / breaks hole in block / crank case

hard to fake

tired engine

worn main bearings / rod bearings

weakened rods / stressed

happens a lot in older V-8, V-6 engines

excessive RPMs and dirty black oil...causes
