Yes, a parent who manages to keep their own children alive ARE doing a great job.

Don't you think there should be a significant amount of evidence that not vaccinating children increases their risk of dying before taking away a parents right to decide how to raise their own children?

I support any parent that chooses to vaccinate their children, as long as they aren't doing so just because their doctor tells them to. If a parent has researched the issue and weighed the risks, benefits, and consequences for not vaccinating, and then decide that they're going to vaccinate their kids anyway, they should have that right.

The evidence for and against is mixed, it's not a settled issue. Gardasil versus the tetanus vaccine is a perfect example. Kids have an increased risk of getting tetanus, as they tend to be more physically active outdoors than adults. The relative safety of the DPT vaccine versus the consequences of a child getting tetanus make choosing to give a child that vaccine pretty defensible.

Gardasil is a whole 'nother beast, one being ramrodded down people's throats by Merck. Since this vaccine is likely to be made mandatory, lets take a look at the details.

That's not called "fainting", that's a seizure.

So the risk of fainting and/or seizure after being given Gardasil is great enough to require Merck to advise physicians to have patients lie down for 15 minutes after receiving it.

We can clearly see where Merck is in the discussion of parents rights based on the last line in the warning, "Only a doctor or health care professional can decide if GARDASIL is right for your child." Only a doctor can decide. Not parents. Parents decisions/opinions don't merit mention by Merck.

Despite 15,000 adverse-event reports, 3,000 injuries, 48 deaths and speculation that its long-term effects could include infertility, Merck lobbyists tried to get its Gardasil vaccine mandated for sixth-grade girls in every state. Merck was pushing for making the vaccine mandatory even before it had been approved in 2006. They only stopped pushing the issue in 2007 when it became clear that protests were damaging sales of the vaccine.

Yet making Gardasil mandatory is still actively being promoted by pharmaceutical groups, and Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, has already made it mandatory by executive order. California is one of the states considering making it mandatory.

Making it mandatory doesn't make it work though, although it does guarantee a revenue stream for Merck. Gardasil sales turned Merck's finances around in 2007, allowing it's CFO of 17 years to retire in "victory".

Unfortunately, an ex-Merck physician, Dr. Bernard Dalbergue warned that Gardasil would eventually be recognized as the greatest medical scandal of all time.
