the whole point was to try to establish some sort of democracy - an anchor point - in the Middle East to counter the extremists that had been building steam in that pressure cooker.

We never took any oil; and Haliburton was a distraction by the Progressives/Liberals who didn't want us to stem the tide of extremism coming to our shores. They wanted us just in the position we're in now. The position that came largely from Obama's withdrawal from Iraq.
