Anonymous Coward User ID: 59205600 India 07/19/2015 05:37 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I mean do I really need beer drinking and disgusting house music to have friends? Last time I saw how the foreigners usually stick to other foreigners and don't mix with the locals, as they don't know Dutch (yet). It's like you have two big crowds at parties that do not interact at all. And I am not interested in veganism and other hipster-y things, so I didn't have many common interests with my bunch. Having to listen to them made me depressed as it made me feel like I am not cool enough like them or something while in fact we are just soooooo different. Funny thing is no guy from my buddy group was interested in cars at all, I guess that's a generational thing because most of them were younger? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25302976 if you want to skip, why post here goto dutch brothels where generations of bulgarians have learned their college education and they are very successful running escort services/brothels why waste time in college? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 69752406 United States 07/19/2015 05:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes, I would skip it. I hated introduction week when I attended my first college. We had to do some stupid games and pinching cheeks thing - ugh. When I went to University, I had to attend another introduction week, which was equally idiotic and useless. Seriously, you are an older student now, and this introduction stuff is mainly geared towards incoming high school graduates with zero adult life experience and equally zero behavioral IQ. I'd skip it and enjoy your time doing something/anything else more worthy of your time. |

keihatsu User ID: 66281859 Thailand 07/19/2015 05:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I went to a university introduction week when I was a bachelor and it was crap. I met many people but mot of them were exchange students for some months and went back home. And we have nothing in common - they only talked about veganism, ecology, traveling, while I am interested in cars, houses, farm life, etc. And I like eating food, but not discussing it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25302976 Now I am accepted in a Dutch university for my Masters and they have an introduction week but it looks like it's mostly for the beer-drinking party goers. guess this is a Netherlands' thing? I am not interested at all in parties and alcohol and at my former introduction week I felt like a fish out of water. And the ones who didn't attend the parties and bars were alienated from the clique. :) My question is - should I skip my introduction this time? It costs around 30 Euros. No. The introduction week allows you to "introduce" yourself, thereby avoiding a semester of misunderstandings about who you are. Get it over with. Data security - solved 2003 (System.Persistence). Eunuchorn User ID: 12465236 United States 07/19/2015 01:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not really, it's just bars, clubs and stupid games. The people I met were somewhat nice, but they really didn't get that there is a real world out there where you have to be an adult. They are gonna hate 9to5, I did the most of it by enjoying my weekends more. Just not a bar/club person. I'd rather have a picnic or go hiking. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25302976 9-5 society needs to fucking burn in hell. I seriously cannot wait for white collar society to fucking collapse. This Yes, I would skip it. No, I meant that even my 9-to-5 job was more enjoyable than the boring talks about where those people wanted to go next on vacation to waste the money of their parents or what vegan dish to do next. It was sooo boring. |

I prefer weekend parties during the daytime, picnics, hiking, etc. so it's not like I'm a homebody, antisocial or something. But it seems that everyone I met at my previous uni was only into getting wasted during the night. But it was a fine experience in seeing what people I don't what as my friends. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 25302976 Bulgaria 07/20/2015 02:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not self-absorbed at all. I went with an open heart only to feel like trying to break a wall with my head. Everyone was like "OMG, get lost!" I guess I should no longer mention my home country when they ask the "Where are you from?" question. I noticed that they change their behavior accordingly to that information, so yep, most Western Europeans are xenophobic unlike most Americans. |
