'Cool kids' can go on to become losers in later life, study finds

The first kid to have long hair in my school in 1966 turned out to be an IRS agent. Completely bald on top at the 10 year reunion, and eating jello with fruit cocktail in it.

It's true about a lot of cool kids, all of the cool kids at my college that I knew well are total losers, taxi drivers, flea market workers, skid row bums.

After thinking for a moment, I don't think this is by accident. Having things come to us to easy and early in life have no sustained value when the adversities inevitably hit later in life.

Challenges early can be of great value over a lifetime

This is the real reason Facebook was created -- to reconnect with the cool kids from high school and experience Schadenfreude when you see what a mess they made of their lives.

Cool kids were popular and had girlfriends without having to do anything to gain those things.
Uncool kids have to work on themselves and bettering their position in life so they can get the girls.

Of course they will, I ha e been swing it for years to my kids. I Cann it the "Cool Factor" and it was created by the kids parents that wished they were Co growing up so they grease the skids for their little brats all the way to adulthood. They eventually fall flat because unlike the alleged President they don't have an institution to prop them up.

Its the average kids, and the nerds who balance the best. The arrogant ones or the ones who had cliques are mediocre, a couple I have known are doing very well, but in general most are pretty much lack luster or downright scum.

Ive noticed that all the women who were hot in high school are the single mothers of today and all the jocks if they didnt go pro all work menial jobs...

Yep. Those highschool "hot chicks" are the single mothers now dancing in strip clubs.

The "cool" kids in my high school were also the rich kids. Most of them are very successful, some even exceeding their parent's success.

It's easy to be successful when you come from a rich family.
If those cool kids' parents weren't rich they'd be working at Walmart.

Rich kids notwithstanding, I'd venture to say the "cool kids" in school (HS and college) were those who "hung out" and looked good! However, they were not preparing for "real life" after school.

They were considered cool, why? Because they could sleep around? those who did that are now called "dead beat dads," or divorcee's who'd been married mutliple times, and have kids by several different men.

Because they dared to talk back to the teachers with (seemingly) no consequences; they didn't do their homework (and did not appear to fail their classes); they skipped class and no one cared.

How do those values translate into "real life?"

Well, if you talk back to your boss, you could be fired. If you don't do your assignments when given, you could be fined or fired. If you call in sick too many times, you WILL be fired. If you do drugs (on some jobs), you will be drug tested and then fired!

There are the reasons the "cool kids" are considered losers once people GROW UP and get into the real world, where values are different than in school.

I actually was a cool kid. Party crowd type. That led to a lost decade in my life devoted to drugs, partying, and smoking hot whores.

I did grow up and recover, but it left me a decade behind my nerdy peers.

Sometimes I regret it, but it was fun a fuck.

The early success at a young age coupled with the child being coddled does not prepare them for the real world. Kinda reminds me of the world of college athletics in a sense

I mean the school does so much for the athlete. Even getting accepted with 1.9 gpa. If the athlete doesn't excel, he's kicked off the team, drops out of school and back to the ghetto

If the athlete does excel. He goes pro, has three years of fame/fortune. Becomes washed up. Two years after retirement he's bankrupt, no cash, back to the ghetto

Some NEVER "grow up."

I went on a long bike trail ride about 8 yrs ago that went through the town I graduated from (1972 a small town, 80 in my class) I stopped at the local restaurant/tavern to refuel before going on.

One of the 'cool kids' I went to school with - (athlete, dated a cheerleader etc.) was sitting at the bar drinking, in old cloths and wearing SLIPPERS, in the middle of the day.

We called people who never leave the town they grew up in 'lifers'. This guy was defiantly a fixture not only in that town but, I think of the bar stool too..

I think taxi drivers and flea market workers are cool. They're outside the system. These people kept on being cool. You're clearly not cool, or you would have known that.

Growing up in many cases means selling out and becoming a cog in the wheel. I salute people who refuse to sell out, even if it means they become homeless. These are the real rebels.

Yeah, didn't need some expensive, lengthy study to tell me that. Just 10 years, one class reunion & FB. Most of the "cool kids" had everything easy & had the fallacious expectation that their entire lives would be that way.




Then life & they Then Karma

Peaking in high school leads to some of the most depressing lives.
