BTW, in Yuriev's futuristic book "Third Empire" a curious scenario of WW3 was presented. That after NATO and Russia entering the state of war Germany left NATO and entered a union with Serbia and Russia. I deem the book quite ridiculous in many aspects, but author does regard only those two nations in Europe to be worthy of respect.

Every Russian car I've ever seen is block-like with almost zero style. Where's the Russian version of a Barracuda, Charger, Camaro, firebird etc etc.?

It works? It's easy to repair? Then it's fine.
This - and a general lack of competition. In SU there was only one car of every class at a time. Some of them - as Lada Niva for example - were the best at their time... but were still produced even 40 years after that.

New Lada Vesta though looks fairly good IMO. Now that we have a foreign designer.

Here's the map of Russian regions. Red are regions that give money to Federal budget. Blue are regions that receive money from Federal budget.
For some recipient regions there are two numbers: light blue - amount of money do region receive per person (in 1000s of rubles) and dark blue - amount of money region receives as a whole (in billions of rubles).
The greatest recipient "per person" is Kamchatskiy Kray - 6 times more than Chechnya.
The greatest recipient in absolute value is Sakha Republic (Yakutiya) - 3 times more than Chechnya.

Well, the whole matter is working on a pendulum principle. Even here the same can be seen: there are housewives that'll do a full makeup to visit a grocery store, men who'd rather not eat properly, but will buy another premium whatever... but it has declined lately, people are getting calmer and more self-sufficient.
I personally have three universal sets of clothing (one for a season) plus three demisesonal ones - it concludes my wardrobe. Well, except of the special occasions.
My family uses simple cars - Opel Meriva and Suzuki SX4 at the moment - because they are comfortable and easy to drive. All while being able to buy more expensive car... but we just don't need that.

Actually, I just thought of another reason why we don't have cool cars. Russian roads are quite a picture by itself. It's actually easier and cheaper for every Russian family to have a Jeep than to build and repair all Russian roads into something passable.

Well after reading this thread from page 1 till last, I must congratulate you on defending yourself on the true/false/absurd and joking in an efficient and verbose manner of simplicity and complexity of which most here should take note of. You stayed true and did yourself and country proud, and thus it's is 1 of many reasons your country and it's leader Putin are finding respect from many new parts of the globe.

That is not so curious as you might think. I know there are alot people who think the same. In fact we think partnership with Russia is the only way for peace and prosperity in Europe. Hypersonic Seidenstrasse from Portugal to China, or even to the USA. The smallest distance between Russia and USA is 100km.

I think too that the EU is a trap for the governments and media in the EU countrys, their traitorous behaviour is becoming so obvious, you get the feeling they want to be removed by force. I don't think that in the modern state of the world there's a meaning to classical imperialistic (meaning "colonial imperialistic") policy. I'd say that the main faulty of what Germany tried to do during both WW1 and WW2 was that your ancestors tried to use British model of empire-building. The second mistake was bringing this policy close to your borders. Actually, the colonial policy only works if metropolitan and colonies are far from each other.
If you want to build a continental empire, you should behave like Russian Empire did - chip out small parts along its border, integrate them and then repeat the process.
In this sense the policy of economical integration of EU is much more perspective, I think. Though, introducing "liberum veto" into it and allowing Eastern European countries enter and to have a vote in it was surely a huge mistake.

Your English is impressive. It is hard to fathom that you have never lived in US and can use English so well. I am originally from Belarus, was born during USSR and have been living in US for 14 yrs. You are very well educated. I am a female. Have you noticed that our people ( I still look at all the Soviet countries as one LOL) are more serious and not as outgoing/cheerful as westerners? I am married to an American and even though I am more outgoing than an average Russian person, I still get comments about me being too serious. Sometimes when I work with someone who associates with Americans only at work and comes otherwise from Russian family, even I notice that that person can be too straightforward, borderline rude, and unfriendly from first impression. I do not mean to say that our people are bad people, just that they sometimes lack social skills. Have you ever noticed that? Even my husband asked me visiting Belarus, why everyone looks angry. I never thought that way and after that comment I started watching it and noticed we do not smile as much as westerners. What do you think about this?

I am from Belarus. See above post. Actually in our country( same as Russia) our guys beat the sh*t out of them. Talked to my friend over Skype, she told me. So we do not have "hate" crimes, LOL

Anything to make them understand we are happy that they have come? But not in a frivolous manner, but really from the heart.
