Tamonten (OP) User ID: 34754802 Russia 04/25/2016 11:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Any idea on why Russian jets are always toying with u.s navy ships? And what do y'all really think of Obama? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 948320 Note, that they are "toying" with ships that essentially probe our borders. I'd call it "giving a hint". Imagine, how would American Navy and AF react if Russian ships were "just passing by" main American bases?.. Also, it's another "hint" - AFAIK, US is refusing to discuss a number of important international matters such as military drone usage regulations and - a number of regulations regarding fleet operation. It's a hint that not regulating some things is an double-edged sword. Don't forget that a system of international law is basically a thing Russia introduced 200 years ago. And about Obama... I've answered it several times here: [link to www.godlikeproductions.com] [link to www.godlikeproductions.com] [link to www.godlikeproductions.com] Last Edited by Tamonten on 04/25/2016 11:59 PM "When every one is dead the Great Game is finished. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72073930 Mostly Russians have no whatsoever impression of Canadians. Those who are though mostly take it from either American-made movies or your country's leadership behavior. Can't say that any of these may be considered a good source of information. I'm sure you've figured out that lots of Americans are ok, like yourself, and then there are some assholes. Quoting: RodeHard Putawaywet Peace. Meh, it's the same with every country. Since Russians are "politically extroverted" (i.e. the general population here is mostly more interested in international politics than in internal one) we mostly consider all people to be the same as us. From what I know about US and the West in general, people there are mostly "politically introverted", which makes it easier to brainwash them into thinking that some other nation is inhuman enemy. I'm laughing every time I stumble on someone still going on about "Commie Russians", be it about me, Putin or my country in general. That's from people who can't really say what Communism was about... And considering the fact that after tasting both Communism and Capitalism in their best and worse, Russians and other people of ex-Warsaw Pact are maybe the only ones really capable to compare them. Tamonten (OP) User ID: 34754802 Russia 04/26/2016 01:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What do you mean exactly? I can think of several ways to interpret your question. First is about "climate-affecting weapons". Heard of it several times, but never in conjunction with Russian army. Another thing I remember of is a quite real project devised by Sakharov (a man who later became a "dissident", someone battling against Soviet establishment, but became world-famous Academic scientist for creating Russian Thermonuclear bombs): he proposed planting warheads into the trenches between continents. The plan was to detonate them simultaneously to cause a massive shift of the crust, forcing North American continent to sink for example. There was a version of this project in which warheads were supposed to be delivered to the targets by the unmanned submarines (i.e. underwater drones in modern words). Then (in early 80s AFAIK) the project was rejected as being "too horrible and inhumane", but lately the whole concept of "nuclear intercontinental torpedo" has reemerged in one quite suspicious leak. What do you think about what's happening in donbass and Krim? Quoting: Akoola11 65542250 Well, I'm pretty much with my government on those matters. Russia couldn't have done more without risking too much. In Crimea 80% of population were "pro-Russian", while in the rest of Novorossiya support could have been a bit over 50% at best. My opinion is that while it is a horrible tragedy, it is also the logical outcome of whole "Ukrainian independence" matter. "When every one is dead the Great Game is finished. Anonymous Coward User ID: 45773290 Bulgaria 04/26/2016 02:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Nigel Farage mentioned once that journalists go missing in Russia. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51892828 Is the KGB still as much in control of free speech as before? Here's one of the recurring misconceptions which made me to create this thread... For once, there's no KGB now. It was renamed FSB (Federal Security Service) and don't manage media. We have a bunch of other services to do this work (RosComNadzor - Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications) and they just monitor content to be appropriate: blocking extremist and porn sites and other such things. Cases are passed to FSB only in the case of uncovering some serious extremist organizations. There are of course some journalist disappearing, being suppressed and other vile things. But none of that is by hand of Federal government, I assure you. As a rule, if some journalist is prone to seek dirt, he'll be seeking it everywhere. If you look closely at the journalists that were allegedly "disposed of because they were targeting Putin", you'd see that they were investigating mafia, corruption on municipal level and many other things. They had a lot of enemies, but when they are finally murdered, Western and Western-aligned MSM blame their death to Putin personally without any other thought. |

As for history - it tends to be both horrible and rich if it's long enough. Because great accomplishments usually require great sacrifices. As for the machinery - it's mostly the thing of 20th century when there were two alternatives - either to develop one or to be smashed first by Hitler and then by the general West. A close competition always forces all competitors to work with all their force.
