But downstream water agencies were warned to avoid Animas water until the plume passes, said David Ostrander, director of EPA's emergency response program in Denver. Officials weren't sure how long it would take the plume to dissipate, Ostrander said. The acidic sludge is made of heavy metal and soil, which could irritate the skin, he said. The EPA was testing the plume to see which metals were released. Previous contamination from the mine sent iron, aluminum, cadmium, zinc and copper into the water, said Peter Butler, co-coordinator of the Animas River Stakeholders Group." |

Just like letting BP dump corexit in the GOM and surrounding areas. Just don't get caught as a contractor changing a window or putting a nail into a home that may have lead paint, your ass could be fined $$$$ because that could be oh so harmful. Never forsake a Kraut for the sake of forsaking a Kraut |

When anyone else spill as much as a cup of tea in a waterway, EPA hits them with a big fine. Who fines the EPA and who gets the money? Maybe the state EPA will fine the Federal EPA in a sorry attempt to balance their own spending deficits. Poetic justice if they can pull it off. |

Colorado River supply about 7 western states with water: Quoting: WinterStone [link to www.coloradoriverbasin.org] This is NOT the Colorado River. It's a river in the state of Colorado. Big difference. "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |
