In primitive societies the wife's (wives') family(s) provide a "dowry" to the prospective groom in order to bribe him into marrying her. I don't know what happens to that in the case of divorce/abandonment but I suspect that HE gets to keep it.

the only way it would be fair, is if a woman could have more than one husband ,,, especially when the original couple turns forty and the women are more sexually active, and the men have spent their wad ... personally, I think it is a great idea for women to have more than one husband, one to work outside of the home and one to work at home
