Re: No hell! Pope says so!
26For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Hebrews 10

Those who have "received knowledge of the truth" - those would be Christians, then, yes? And not the run-of-the-mill masses of blind captives bound under the coercion of the world and the devil?

Everybody heard of Jesus, no one has any excuse.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24497831

OK, but if the Father hasn't revealed Him to them - like He did with Peter - how can they truly know, and truly believe and trust? It remains mere information that the carnal mind cannot absorb. Pete declared Jesus as Christ, and Jesus said that flesh & blood did not reveal that to him - The Father did. It took personal intervention from God to get it through to him, yes? It's not exactly the same gig as passing out tracts on halloween or whatever ;)

I'll be glad to come up with all kinds of excuses for them; over and over, scripture speaks of mankind as captives. Slaves to sin. Slaves aren't exactly known for having a whole lot of freedom, are they? They need *freed*, perhaps by people who were once in those same shoes, now compassionate, willing & able to bring redemption and hope instead of callously declaring that they have no excuse and are screwed. No offense.

And it is not what you think...

hell is pagan nonsense.
not even a Christian or Jewish idea.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70232648

Nothing to do with Paganism.

Hell was adopted by the church after Dante wrote the Divine Comedies or Dante's Inferno.

He wrote it as a metaphor for his loneliness and exile. As the reader imagines the images he wrote, they experience his feelings in a way.

Because the Inferno was an absolute dread and frightening place to imagine, the church adopted it as a form of fear mongering.

But it is called Dante's Inferno for a reason. It was created by Dante in 1320.

The Pagan aspect is the fact that Pagans believed that setting fire to a corpse would release the soul. Where Catholics believe a corpse should be buried and not disposed of the same way a Pagan would.

Keep in mind that fire to pagans is very powerful. It represent the south and in the south you have Archangel Michael.

Not to forget the fact that Christians were burnt and in their eyes, those doing the burning must be soldiers of the devil.

Hell is simply separation from God. Those who reject God, and want nothing to do with Him, will not be forced to spend eternity with Him. It is an individual choice, but not a wise one, I think.

For example, you may believe that your right hand would be better of not having to serve the rest of the body, but just cut it off and see how well it does on it's own...

Agreed. If it were real, why did God not mention it when sentencing Cain, world's first murderer? In fact He made not one peep about it to Adam & Eve, Noah, Abraham, or even Moses, to whom He issued volumes of detailed directives, including information on such mundane topics as how to menstruate. The punchline is that catholicism itself erected the belief in hellfire about the 4th or 5th century when they paganized everything - up until then, the early christian church largely believed in the eventual redemption of everyone, with God's "fires" applied for cleansing and not literal torture/annihilation.

The good news is that the Son of Man is come not to destroy people, but to *save* them.

That's a highly popular belief, but it's not scriptural, especially if we're going to take Psalms literal at face value. Psalm 139 say God is even in hell (sheol). There's no separation from Him there. Revelation 14 states that those on the scary lake of fire will be in the presence of the Lamb - again, no separation.

As Light, Christ is holding our atoms together, so "separation from God" is not on the menu. Colossians 1 might be a good place to begin for those interested in freedom from Egypt's poison doctrines (though I understand many are content with what they've been fed).

What a stupid cunt being. He's going to believe once he's trapped there for an eternity. He's just another corrupt piece of shit abusing his position. Like many others of this era they want attention and to be remembered for something but they lack the intelligence to think of something new so they try to change perception of something old. Like the pro homo movement.

As God I can assure you perdition is real and many of these corrupt bastards are going there to be tortured forever.

Re: No hell! Pope says so!
sounds more and more that this pope is a fake.
Hell as we like to see it, is an lower dimension or you can even see it as purgatory (think about ghosts in this one).

Heaven is on a higher dimension, where your spirit evolves to if you are being a good person for the people around you and show compassion in time of needs.

This way of life is needed for mankind, to let them learn about how consequences work, how the big rule of karma works. If you say there is no hell, it means there is no consequence, do whatever you like, be drunk, be horrible.

This pope really is only a people appleaser and not a speaker of truth!

Psalm 138 King James Version
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

Psalm 138 Young's Literal Translation
8 If I ascend the heavens -- there Thou [art], And spread out a couch in Sheol, lo, Thee!

So there are couches in "hell", you would think they would have been incinerated ;-)

sheol is "the grave" not hell

This is not about the pope, this is about the misunderstandings about "hell".

Such a thing would violate God's own Law, which limits any punishment to the scope of the offense - eye for an eye, tooth for tooth, and burn for burn (Exodus 21). Even in cases where a beating was authorized, it was limited to 40 stripes and no more. Going overboard is forbidden.

This is why God states that vengeance is His, and not for us to issue, because we're prone to excess and are largely unable to be objective. We can't be trusted to do what's right if we're bloodthirsty.

Re: No hell! Pope says so!
“Through humility, soul searching, and prayerful contemplation we have gained a new understanding of certain dogmas. The church no longer believes in a literal hell where people suffer. This doctrine is incompatible with the infinite love of God. God is not a judge but a friend and a lover of humanity. God seeks not to condemn but only to embrace. Like the fable of Adam and Eve, we see hell as a literary device. Hell is merely a metaphor for the isolated soul, which like all souls ultimately will be united in love with God.”
