That's because all streets within a three-block radius of the Capitol will be closed from midnight Thursday until noon while Francis speaks before a joint meeting of Congress. Street closures are among multiple security measures Capitol Police announced Monday as part of its preparations for the pontiff's visit to Washington. All guests with tickets for the West Front while Francis visits Capitol Hill will have to undergo bag searches as part of the security screening. Prohibited items include the usual weapons and alcoholic beverages, as well as strollers, metal containers and large bags (no more than 18 by 14 by 8.5 inches).
