Here we go again: Hizballah is suspected of ransacking an Israeli military arms and ammo store at Kibbutz Shomera in cross-border raid Wednesday

A few hours later, an IDF force combed through the S. Lebanese village of Merwahin opposite Shomera and questioned the villagers about the robbery. DEBKAfile reports the thieves made off with a large quantity of side-arms, anti-tank weapons, LAU rockets and hundreds of combat grenades.

Military investigators believe that a special Hizballah unit crossed into Israel, broke into the store and carried the stolen weapons back to Lebanon. Hizballah terrorists are familiar with the Shomera area. Not far from the kibbutz, they killed 8 Israeli soldiers and kidnapped Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev on July 12 in an ambush that ignited the Lebanon war. The cross-border break-in to an IDF installation is a gross violation of the August 14 ceasefire brokered by the United Nations.
