RadChick (OP) User ID: 56069360 United States 09/15/2015 06:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "At 1847 EDT on September 14, 2015, a valid automatic Reactor Protection System (RPS) actuation occurred due to Reactor Water Level 3 while shutdown in MODE 3. Operators were manually controlling Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) level and pressure with Reactor Core Isolation Cooling (RCIC) and Safety Relief Valves (SRV). While operators were cycling SRVs, the RPV level went below the Level 3 setpoint. Operators promptly restored RPV level by manual operation of RCIC. The Level 3 actuation and associated isolations were verified to operate properly. "The scram signal has been reset. Fermi 2 remains in MODE 3 controlling RPV Level and Pressure through manual operation of RCIC and SRVs. "This is the second occurrence of a valid specified safety system actuation reportable under 10CFR50.72(b)(3)(iv)(A) for this ongoing event." RadChick (OP) User ID: 56069360 United States 09/15/2015 06:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Right now they are manually controlling feedwater (to keep hot rods covered) and the pressure in reactor vessel by playing with the relief valves... They are still trying to find the second leak. It must be a biggie to drop in danger zone twice for one event. I dont know jack about squat when it comes to anything in that description but if you're right and thats all a really big deal......holy fuck I'm worried for the people up there. :( |

RadChick (OP) User ID: 56069360 United States 09/15/2015 06:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | All of the various systems to keep a reactor powered up seem to have failed at once. It started with a leak, which they fixed - but pressure was still wonky. Then water dropped to dangerous low level for no apparent reason. They started manually "controlling" pressure and then found the water system has some totally new leak somewhere else, which they can't seem to find. But they know it's happening. At some point while looking for other mysterious leak the water dropped AGAIN, so they are pumping and keeping water in and controlling relief pressures manually...which you only do in a fairly extreme emergency. Next few hours very important, they have to maintain water over rods or you can get something like this: [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] FERMI 2 is the same style of reactor as Fukushima. As this plant sits right on the Great Lakes it would be very bad if things got out of hand there. They had a partial meltdown there in 1966. Its sickening how Japan forgot about fukushima and fired up all its nuke plants once again, putting the planet at risk again! There is 10,000 times more sunlight energy reaching the earths surface than our entire current energy needs. All we need is photovoltaics. |

Anyone local with a geiger counter keep an eye out, or report any unusual activity at plant. We need readings for Michigan, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania & Ontario Canada in case these f*ckers let this situation get out of control. We will know before it's announced. RadChick (OP) User ID: 56069360 United States 09/15/2015 07:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From Fermi 2 DTE website/Just FYI: Emergency preparedness - what you need to know The Fermi 2 emergency plans are tested regularly. The Federal government requires a complete test of the plan each year. The siren system has been installed to cover a 10-mile radius around Fermi 2. This system is tested the last Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. The sirens are controlled by Monroe County and Wayne County officials, who are responsible for the Emergency Alert System. These sirens are also used to alert residents in the event of tornadoes and other weather emergencies. A summary of actions to be taken In the unlikely event of a nuclear emergency appear below. For full details, please see the booklet Emergency Preparedness for Monroe and Wayne Counties which can be downloaded here and is mailed to all residents within the 10-mile radius of the plant. A 3-minute steady siren blast will be used to alert residents of an emergency. Residents will be instructed to tune their radio or television to the Emergency Alert System (EAS). Official directions and information will be provided. If an evacuation is needed, residents with the 10-mile emergency planning zone will be informed by the EAS. Evacuation routes, as well as the locations of reception and congregate care centers, will be announced. The police will control access to the evacuated areas. Only authorized people will be allowed to enter the evacuated area.
