Is it a real land line into the wall, or is broadband land line?

I remember when I was a kid, if the power was out phones still worked. But nowadays a lot of land lines are not true land lines.

Growing up in the northwest, the power went out a lot in Fall wind storms. Cell phones weren't yet much of a thing in the late 80s and early 90s. So we had an "old school" non cordless phone. So did all the family. Just to keep in touch when the power was out.

Seems most outages were by Buckley AFB and surroundings. Its where the President flies into on his trips to CO. Heard they were rolling.

By rolling I mean the phone outages and blackouts. My rental is right on the other side of the Grabel bldg. So when I used to live there I could actually hear them play "Taps" happened back in 92 shit I don't remember but it was when the Pope last came to Denver. Just before the "Meeting of the Eight" and then they built DIA.

VIOP landlines are unpowered--you loose internet, you loose your phone.

Ma Bell (hardwired) phone work in power outages--they power themselves via the landline.

We have had the same landline in Colorado for 40+ years. It was Mountain Bell, the Qwest, and now Centurylink. Beavers dropped a tree on our power lines about a week ago. Our landline phone still worked fine without power to our area.

We have to have a landline. No cell service or high speed Internet out here. Only Internet is satellite and is does not support VOIP.

Nope, I mean actual beavers. The have been taking down a tree almost everyday. That just happened to be a big tree and got hung up in the power lines. Knocked out power to everyone near us too

Not sure about the phones. They all have regular phone cables. Can't confirm at home because my family only uses cellphones.

Will check at work tomorrow and see if there's an update.

Normal night so far, otherwise

Those are called copper lines.

Did you know Verizon will cut the lines to them on homes when they come in to install their electricity-dependent land lines? Why should they be cutting access to that infrastructure?
