what's normal for earthquake aftershocks?

I see that Chile has continued to be hit with 3-5x magnitude quakes every 30 minutes or so, consistently, since the big 8.3 quake. In the past two hours, there have been 8 quakes, five 3x and three quakes at 4.0, 4.3, and 4.7.

is this normal after a 8.3 that was, what, a week ago?

or is this a sign of something else to come?
