The first line in the original Nicene Creed is:

"I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible."

That's not what Catholics believe. Thar is what is asserted before the creed expounds on the allaged nature of the son, and later revised in the The Niceno–Constantinopolitan Creed and further expounded on in the Athanasian Creed and the Catechism. They don't believe that the Father alone is the only God (which is what the Bible teaches). In fact they consider that a heresy. They also believe that the holy spirit and the son are persons separate from the Father and fully God themselves. One, two, three.

It's very common knowledge that Catholics believe that there is one God, not three. Jesus says "I and the Father are one" and does things that only God can do, like forgive sins by His own authority. And by the way, Jesus did refer to himself as "I Am," the name of God, 4 times in John. Thomas calls Jesus "My Lord and my God." I could go on for a while, but an article about it was already written so here's the link: [link to www.catholic.com]

They are one in purpose as revealed by context. He also prayed for his followers to become one as they are one, and one with them. Are you expecting being promoted to God too any time soon?

And Jesus sais ego eimi, not the divine name in Exodus 3:14 which is "ego eimi ho on", "ho un" the subject of emphasis. You have three Gods, Jesus the Father and the holy spirit. Three. Claiming they are as one or of one substance does not change the fact that there three separate being called fully God. Three!

Jesus never said that his apostles could be God. The New Testament says countless times that Christians are one... in Christ. My Catholic High School's motto (Marist in Eugene, Oregon) was "We are one." The Bible says countless times that Jesus is God. [link to carm.org (secure)] Out of curiosity, what denomination are you?

Also, you clearly have a similar respect and love for Jesus as me, you just have a different view of God I guess. As many Catholics and I'm sure other Christians often come to know, we agree about much more than we disagree about and our faiths are much more similar than we realize.
