Two thoughts:

1. Agreed. Bush doesn't try to bluff

2. The US has a history of trying to get the patsy to draw first. ie. blockades to encourage Japan to hit the unguarded sheep in the corral at PH. Passenger ships unguarded through German sub infested atlantic waters. If Iran thought attack was inevitable and imminent, they would probably shoot first. Use it or lose it.

don't be silly. The US can not afford another war against a powerful country like Iran. Whether the US likes it or not, Iran is now the new regional and perhaps world super power given the support it has generated for itself in the Mideast, far east and even in some parts of the West.

I suspect that's by design. We need to look to Germany and France.

From what I have heard is that they have recieved a DPO (?) order, several ship commanders have called there bosses to complain. It appears that order can come only with congress approval. Anybody else hear this?

Here's some more info.
Colonel Gardiner, who has taught military strategy at the National War College, says that the carrier deployment and a scheduled Persian Gulf arrival date of October 21 is "very important evidence" of war planning. He says, "I know that some naval forces have already received 'prepare to deploy orders' [PTDOs], which have set the date for being ready to go as October 1. Given that it would take about from October 2 to October 21 to get those forces to the Gulf region, that looks about like the date" of any possible military action against Iran. (A PTDO means that all crews should be at their stations, and ships and planes should be ready to go, by a certain date--in this case, reportedly, October 1.) Gardiner notes, "You cannot issue a PTDO and then stay ready for very long. It's a very significant order, and it's not done as a training exercise." This point was also made in the Time article.

A couple of Sunburn missiles owned by the Iranians will toast the whole carrier group. Last I heard, the American Navy had no effective defense against these missiles. But then do I hear the words 'Pearl Harbour', which Roosevelt knew about in advance and allowed to take place in order to persuade Americans to enter the war? Would Bush set up American ships to be attacked in order to justify all-out war with Iran. Of course! We now know that Roosevelt did the same.

Maybe watching to see if Iran tries to send things to North Korea, afterall isn't there mandatory sanctions now on N. Korea?

My suggestion is that the oldest carrier (whichever that is) will be sacrificed and the blame will be placed on Iran, quite likely it may even be "nuked" to provide an excuse to use them in retaliation.
