I learned stationary hurricanes can go in ANY direction regardless of forecasts. Quoting: -VonAmoR- Simply because the storm is already stationary. Meaning the forces that make it move are in balance. That balance can change at any time allowing it to move in any direction. Imagine if this hurricane merges with this coastal low pressure system? It would be a mega-hurricane....Cat 6? and where is it going to get its energy from? canes get their energy from warm sea water right? Which produces a drop in pressure from the rising warm air mass in the center. If it merges with the coastal low, the low pressures will combine. Like a shot of energy for the hurricane. and yes, they need heat to grow and remain. That heat is what makes the pressure drop. Other forms of dropping pressure will strengthen the storm just like hot water would. |

I believe these weather forecasters are hoping it goes to sea, not certain it will. All through history, stationary (or damn near close at 3 mph) can go any direction. These types of scenarios are far more unpredictable. Something the weather services are not saying much about. |

This hurricane will likely hit hard, cause a national emergency (21 states have already declared and 33 or 34 will take the US into de facto martial law I think) and be blamed on all those who don't believe in or have resisted climate change "See! I told you climate change would be devastating! The democratic process did not work so I'm going to declare martial law and suspend all elections… Now let's start with getting the guns" Something like that? |

Just look at the west coast some spiral formation comes down from Canada and follows the coastline to southern Cali, is that also a rain system? Thank you for the info! |

There can be historical flooding this weekend in the Carolina's and other states. The situation that is setting up for inland areas of South Carolina are extreme. Quoting Jeff Masters and Bob Henson Blog: Another exceptional part of the story from this weekend into Monday will be the mammoth rainfall amounts expected to fall over parts of the Southeast and mid-Atlantic, particularly South Carolina. These areas are not unfamiliar with torrential rain, especially from landfalling tropical cyclones, but the amounts this weekend will be amazing even by southeastern standards—and this is assuming Joaquin does not make landfall. Strong and extremely moist flow pushing from the Atlantic against the Appalachians may boost rainfall totals to record or near-record totals from the mountains and foothills of northeast Georgia to western Virginia. The Greenville/Spartanburg NWS office is already warning that “all the ingredients are in place for a rainfall event of historic proportions across the area.” The impacts of this storm are not over for the US. Joaquin may not directly impact the US but his indirect impact could be catastrophic in terms of flooding. Hurricane Camille produced just as many death in Virginia from epic flooding as the people who died on landfall. |

Epic rainfall likely for South Carolina The latest 3-day Quantitative Precipitation Forecast from NOAA's Weather Prediction Center is calling for 15+ inches of rain for the majority of South Carolina, including the cities of Charleston and Columbia. This forecast assumes that Hurricane Joaquin will not come anywhere close to the state. The rain will be due to what meteorologists call a "Predecessor Rain Event" (PRE) (see this paper on them, h/t to Stu Ostro of TWC: [link to journals.ametsoc.org] In a Predecessor Rain Event, tropical moisture well out ahead of a landfalling tropical cyclone interacts with a surface front and upper-level trough to produce heavy rainfall, often with significant inland flooding. The PRE can develop well to the left or right of the eventual track of the tropical cyclone. Slow-moving Hurricane Joaquin is perfectly positioned to transport a strong low-level flow of super-moist tropical air that has water vapor evaporated from record-warm ocean waters north of the Bahamas eastwards into the Southeast U.S. Once this moisture hits land, it will encounter a cut-off upper low pressure system aloft, with a surface front beneath it, which will lift the moist air, cooling it, and forcing epic amounts of rainfall to fall. The air will also be moving up in elevation from the coast to the Piedmont and Appalachians, which lifts the air and facilitates even more precipitation. Satellite imagery is already hinting at development of this connection of moisture between Joaquin and the Southeast low and frontal system. |

HAARP. They can turn these fuckers when ever they want. Oh, and as far as "category 4 5 6" , they can bump this bitch up as much as they want. Its moving 3mph for a reason. The slower it moves the more water gets dumped on each area. It also allows them to dump more energy into it so they can pump it back up strength. All these fuckers are controlled, and not by God. Dry air approaching from the west and northeast, plus increasing shear, plus an encroaching frontal boundary. The finale has begun. Interesting though to see that the ECWMF has a powerful remnant of Joaquin off the British Isles in about a week. [link to www.ssd.noaa.gov] |
