We know it was, yes. That is if we chose to believe what of it remains, say about it. I happen to believe what the stones and locations/environment say.

I do believe the capital was right where we were told it was, and that place and its surrounding geography says a lot. i believe, the Egyptians when they say people watched it sink in a day. I believe there was a very different civilization here for some time, I believe, life, ebbs and flows with its environment. We are that output, currently. I believe if our environment was different, perhaps something else would grow to take our place, and we become the stories being chased through time. :)

Past unknowns is similar to present unknowns in their day. I went last year or the year before to the Lewis and Clark site where Lewis’s grave stone is.
