Thankfully, it looks as though the dense forest stopped the two derailed train cars from sliding too far down the hill. Very lucky. Good news. :)

Why is this happening seemingly so frequently? I remember never hearing about passenger train derailments. I remember infrequently hearing about freight train derailments. WTF is up?

They way it looks, a rock slide may have caused it.

It's like airlines and utilities then. They seem to say "F*** passenger/customer safety, we won't spend money on maintenance or safety features". It's a better financial gamble for them to bet that nothing will happen with any frequency, and that when something does happen, it's still cheaper to pay fines and possible out of court settlements than to take care of hardware and infrastructure.

With these scumbags the bottom line is always king, screw people.
