Most people don't know this, but He actually wrote their names in the dust.
When He did this, they knew what it meant, that's why they walked away.
Jeremiah 17:13 "O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.'
Quoting: Lisa*Lisa it is actually believed (but no-one really even knows or sure) that it was their sins , not their names. but still this is best reason. on another note, some churches don't teach this verse because it doesn't appear in the oldest manuscripts and may be a event that did happen, but was added by a scribe.
