How does a weak storm strengthen to a Cat 5 plus in less than 48 hours and weaken to a tropical depression in under 12 hours without divine intervention?

Plenty of rain moving into Brazoria and Fort Bend counties. This will fill in eastward. Heavier stuff going to start and it appears it will just get heavier and heavier as the day and night goes on.

Just talked to my brother in Austin and he described pitch black with torrential rain. He lives near Lake Travis and got 5.8 inches from previous storm. He emptied his rain gauge and it is full again after less than an hour. He has a 6" rain gauge!

Not much of a chance. The low level circulation of the remnant low is dissipating now and a non-tropical low has formed along a trough near Brownsville. This low should drift NE along the cold front for the next 24 hours or so. It should remain more or less attached to the front, which will prevent anything tropical forming. It's forecast to be a 1000 mb low right at the TX/LA border by about noon Monday, so south Texas will get some 30-35 mph winds out of it, with gusts as high as 45 mph. It may feel like a TS at times, but the chances there will actually be a TS are pretty low.
