Meteorite In Russia Crashes Into Lake Baikal!
Just in on the Russian newsfeeds! A large space rock entered the atmosphere over Irkutsk Region, breaking into two, or possibly more fragments. Impactor weight around 1kg.

Russian scientists have the preliminary impact point at lake Baikal. State that the rock would be impossible to recover. Same scientists warm of around eight more rocks, that are also incoming. Orbital period around 2.88 years. Here is a very recent video of the atmospheric intruder. More details will come, as I find them.

If any foreign minister begins to defend to the death a "peace conference," you can be sure his government has already placed its orders for new battleships and aeroplanes.

Re: Meteorite In Russia Crashes Into Lake Baikal!
Here is a Russian news link with more details. The rock fell about 17 kilometers from the nearest inhabited village, around one kilometer from the shore into Lake Baikal. Several witnesses from other major cities around the area such as Angarsk spotted this bolide breaking up as well.

Orbital period of 2.88 years and the orbit was placed quite close to the Ecliptic plane of our Solar system. Scientists believe these incoming rocks were disturbed by Jupiter's gravity field. The article is in Russian and needs translating. Now what could the rock size be if around 1kg of mass survives atmospheric entry I wonder?

Why do they always land in Russia?

"Russia is greatest country in the world." At least by land area. Just this one Lake Baikal is the size of several European countries for sure! Now imagine that some life survived on that rock and soon Lake Baikal will be inhabited by tentacle monsters ;) After all it is a body of fresh water, not salt.
