That blimp went down just up the road from my house - Still can't get near the place.

I bet a drone took it down. I just saw a blimp in the sky the other day and was surprised to see one, I didn't think they still fly them around.

Hard to tell from the picture in the paper. Just looks like a huge wad of silver foil draped across the trees. Heard every description from blimp to balloon, but didn't see it for myself so not really sure.

Has the power been restored, have the power lines been fixed yet?

Not sure where they would fly a drone out of to get in this area. Suppose its possible, more likely that a local popped it a few times. It wasn't that high and the target was huge. Small game season just opened up here so plenty of guys just hanging out with their .22s and shotguns just looking for something to shoot at.

I think it was most likely a local shot the thing down, and good on them.

Power is back on pretty much everywhere that I know of. It's PPL in this area and they have been very responsive to all types of problems that last few years. I don't know anyone with their power out still.

Just not aware enough to avoid getting shot down! Bad blimp!

If it was an unmanned drone wouldnt they have remote control to fly the thing?

It was all very weird actually. Just a couple of weeks ago we had a few heavy transport aircraft flying patterns over the house. They flew in formation and circled the area a half a dozen times before they flew off, not to be seen again.

Lived here the better part of 30 years and never saw anything like it. I took some videos of the jets, but they didn't turn out very good. There isn't much to look at except some big grey jets flying low and slow over the hills around my place. No air shows or anything like that, it was all very random. Had the neighbors calling me asking what was going on, but of course I had no idea.

Just been a lot of weird shit going on the the Pennsylvania hills lately.

Sure, but they still have to launch it from somewhere.

They are saying that it crash landed and then police shot a still inflated portion to deflate it. That's a pretty big difference from the local story. At least they got pretty pictures though.

After watching the video in that link it gives me just one more reason not to watch main stream media. what a bunch of bs.

You would have thought they would have shot it down right after it got away from them, but they didn't. They 'escorted' it until it got low enough to start causing problems and then locals shot the piece of shit out of the sky. Some really shitty policy all around. Thankfully nobody was hurt due to their fuckups.

Amish aren't so bad. I get most of my chicken feed from the Amish guy down the road in trade for fresh fish.

Well, got a few more replies than expected, but those damn chickens get up early so calling it quits for the night. I'll check the thread tomorrow for any other comments.

lol I love this site. I swear you guys are just to parnoid. The reason you cannot get close to it is. Because of the payload it is carrying. I worked personally on both of these aerostat's. There is nothing spying on you with this blimp. It just carries a advanced radar.

Of course its not spying on us. It got shot down and crashed in the woods. Wonder what the danger zone for the RF on the radar was as it floated along. Some of the powerful ground radars you wouldn't want to be within a hundred meters while they were operational. This was supposed to be some pretty juiced up radar.

they are still airworthy and useful at big events. I grew up near Akron, home of the Goodyear blimp. We always saw it nosing around.

That is very true on the ground based radar as it is for this one or any of them. But once the aerostat reaches a certain height it is turned on. It has a stanby mode as well. Once the tehter was broken it lost all power. Trying to relax the fears here of people. Once the thing reaches a certain alt. it has things on it to bring it down. But the volume is so high this takes awhile therefore that is why you see where it went down.
