The air pressure becomes greater in the balloon than outside it so it expands until it bursts...people don't understand what a vacuum really is. A vacuum is the lack of air and air pressure. When you suck soda through a straw, you are simply removing the air and letting 14.7 lbs of air pressure push the soda up the straw and into your mouth.
