Satellite Shows Heat Flash When Russian Metrojet Plane Crashed, But No Missile: U.S. Officials
While many have speculated that a missile may have struck a Russian commercial airliner that went down over Egypt's Sinai peninsula, U.S. officials are now saying satellite imagery doesn't back up that theory.

A senior defense official told NBC News late Monday that an American infrared satellite detected a heat flash at the same time and in the same vicinity over the Sinai where the Russian passenger plane crashed.

According to the official, U.S. intelligence analysts believe it could have been some kind of explosion on the aircraft itself, either a fuel tank or a bomb, but that there's no indication that a surface-to-air missile brought the plane down.

Definitely points to a bomb onboard... there have been planes that blew up midair due to malfunction, but it's extremely rare.

Especially since this plane was headed to Russia, so it's fuel tanks would have been full... so no vapors for a large explosion.

America and Russia both have satellites that monitor the globe for missile launches, it's a leftover from the Cold War when we were watching for a nuclear first strike.

The infrared signature of a missile or explosion is easy to detect from space... emissions in the IR spectrum travel through the atmosphere much better than visible light.

It's time to start looking at the passenger list, and who exactly, was on that plane and what their employment was.

The satellites are not for imaging... they look at the ENTIRE globe simultaneously looking for strong IR signatures, not Egypt in particular. This particular satellite probably covered the whole middle east.

That being said, we probably do have actual spy satellites checking out what is going on there... most first world nations do. Shit, even Google has satellites mapping the globe.

You need vapors to get fuel to explode... considering this jet's destination it's tanks would be full, making that unlikely.

A laser that powerful would have to be built into a large fixed facility... and I know what you're going to say, yeah someone came up with a new one that fits into your pocket.

Well someone with that kind of technology would not waste making it public by taking down an airliner... when they would obviously have the capability of just planting a bomb on the jet.

Hey Bes... From what I remember from back then, the satellites can only tell the general area of the launch, since they are looking at such a wide part of the globe.

Since the front line of the battle in Ukraine was right near the shootdown, I don't think they could really tell just with the IR satellite system. It was designed to detect Russian ICBM launches, so it didn't really need to be that accurate... it was just to tell them what nation they came from.

Did you see that alleged video of the shootdown that came out the first day? People are saying it was filmed by a drone because it's obvious that it couldn't have been shot from the ground given the size of the plane in the shot and also the angle... I am quite sure that it is a hoax CGI creation.

I know suddenly they changed their angle stating as a fact it was footage from a drone. For that footage being so shaky and blurry, that was some crap drone then I must say.

As to the MH17, I was just wondering why we haven't heard much from the US Satellite that was over the area, surely they have more detailed info. But that's another story, thanks for your answer.

Watch this, different plane, and different crash scenario due to altitude and plane etc, but the more I investigate the tailstrike theory and actual accidents and crashes that led to explosive decompression, the more I have a feeling that was the cause.

Looking at the crash site, the tail etc...and the fact that the fuselage hit a rock and that's when it exploded and burnt.

If youíre a passenger, and the following occurs, donít panic Ė itís most likely an explosive decompression.

The first sign is always a loud bang, as if an explosion had taken place during flight.

The loud bang is often followed by violent jerks.

You may see clouds of condensed air forming almost immediately.
You will feel the flow of air rushing out of the plane.
Oxygen masks will drop down in front of you and the other passengers.
You may see loose items fly through the cabin and out of the plane, as the air flows through the aircraft.

And you believe this NBC report?

Hmmm... I smell something.

This is an ongoing investigation, why would all the information be disclosed to the public? Even if its eliminating a cause, it can't really be eliminated yet..

None of this report makes sense to me.
