From what I remember from back then, the satellites can only tell the general area of the launch, since they are looking at such a wide part of the globe. Since the front line of the battle in Ukraine was right near the shootdown, I don't think they could really tell just with the IR satellite system. It was designed to detect Russian ICBM launches, so it didn't really need to be that accurate... it was just to tell them what nation they came from. |

For that footage being so shaky and blurry, that was some crap drone then I must say.
