If Jesus was born in 3BC (around the time of the conjunction)and Herod's' order to kill all children two years old or less occurred just before his death in the Spring of 1BC. then Jesus would have been about 18 months old and fit into Herod's' calculation period.

Josephus says that the night after Herod put to death two rabbis, Matthias and Judas, who tore down a golden eagle which Herod had placed over the doors to the Temple, there was an eclipse of the moon. Josephus says that immediately after this, Herod began to suffer and died sometime between the eclipse and Passover.

If this was the total eclipse "blood moon" which occurred on 10 JAN 1 BC, then Herod died within 89 days of this. 1 BC.

The star led the "wise men" to Herod. He questioned them about when they had first seen and followed the star to their arrival in Judea. In reading one of the Gospels it talks not about these men finding Yeshuah/Jesus lying in a stable. But, rather living in a house by that time.
So, rather than the quaint nativity scenes including Wise men...that came much later. It was only the shepherds in the field who were told to come at the birth.

The Wise Men brought the gifts to the house and then because of the suspicion aroused by Herod they decided to leave by a different road and not to return to Herod so that he would question them about the whereabouts of the child who was nearly 2 by then.
