I'm gonna drop this in here because I am just beside myself and need to vent.

Just before this thread started I was referred to a hematologist because my PCP was concerned that I may have lymphoma based on lab results and symptoms. My first appointment with the hematologist was mostly discussion and she also ordered some blood work. I just have to mention that this woman rubbed me the wrong way during my first appointment. Based on the results of my blood work she scheduled me for a bone marrow biopsy. At this point she did not believe I had lymphoma, but mentioned the possibility of Polycythemia Vera.

This is where things got frustrating.

When I went back to see her to get the results from the bone marrow biopsy I was expecting the worst. But fully prepared to hear whatever I was going to hear and just looking forward to some form of treatment to relieve the symptoms.

To my complete surprise she tells me the results came back normal. Nothing found. All is well. Hmmmmm, this didn't fly with me. Had she even reviewed my results? This hematologist is a part of Lahey Clinic and as a patient I am able to view my test results online. Unfortunately I can only see very minimal unless it's just a blood test. So based on the very little I was able to see of the bone marrow biopsy results, I asked her if she would print my results for me so we could review them together...

She took HUGE offense to this. Became very unprofessional and she let me know that it took her YEARS OF MEDICAL SCHOOL to be able to read these results. I told her that I wasn't claiming to know how to read the results, but that I wanted a copy of them and to discuss them. She told me that she didn't think it was a good idea for me to see the results because it could cause more worry or something along those lines. Really?! Like that was supposed to make me feel better and say 'oh, okay, never mind then, I don't need to see them.' Ummmm, no. I persisted and requested my results. She got very sarcastic at this point and told me that she would order a few more tests and then if I wasn't satisfied she would send me to a 'super specialist in Boston.' How arrogant and unprofessional!

Anyway, she finally agreed to provide me with MY results. She told me to pick them up at the front office on my way out while scheduling my next appointment. Defeating the purpose of my asking for them to go over them TOGETHER.

So I pick up what should have been a 3 page result (which she read 1 paragraph from during the appointment). One paragraph from a THREE page result report! Conveniently page 2 was missing and I didn't notice this until I got home and started to review them. Naturally I was left with a ton of questions. These results did NOT seem as cut and dry as she made them seem.

I guess to appease me she ordered an ultrasound. An abdomen and pelvic ultrasound. But she screwed up on the order. When I arrived at the hospital for the ultrasound, the ultrasound tech asked me why I was there as she was pulling up the order. I told her that I was hoping she could tell me that since my hematologist doesn't tell me anything (I didn't say the last part of that to the woman). She then tells me that the order states I was to have both an abdomen and pelvic ultrasound, but that my hematologist only put the order through for the abdomen ultrasound...aka hematologist screwed up the order.

Fast forward to ultrasound results...there was a small area of concern so a CT scan was scheduled. What my hematologist failed to tell me, I guess she didn't think I needed to know (or had the damn right to know) that the ultrasound results showed multiple gallstones. I only found that out by the online results I am able to view. This is a separate issue from the small area of concern.

CT scan done, follow up appointment with hematologist for results, and again...everything came back normal. Nothing to see here. I mentioned that 'area' of concern (which was the reason I had to have the CT scan) and she has no clue what I'm talking about. She had to go onto her computer to pull up the results and of course told me that it was nothing.

I had been having insurance issues and unable to see my PCP for a physical throughout 2015. I finally resolved those issues and saw my PCP (whom I really like) at the beginning of this month for a physical. She ordered blood work and performed a full physical exam. I told her about my experience with the hematologist and told her about the refusal to let me see the bone marrow biopsy results. She had me sign releases so that she could get all of my test results from all of the tests done with the hematologist. Keep in mind, it was this PCP who initially wanted me to see a hematologist because she suspected lymphoma. My PCP is a good doctor. She cares. She is compassionate. She looked me in the eyes during my physical and told me she was going to help me.

Fast forward to today. I finally got around to opening some mail I received a few days ago. One piece of mail was from my PCP. This is what it said...

I just feel defeated. I should've begun treatments MONTHS ago to receive some relief from the symptoms, but no. I was under the hand of a woman who's ego was bruised by me asking for my own test results.

So here we go again...square one.

I truly apologize for the wall of text. I just really needed to get that out.

Still praying for you Simple, and hope that the medical care system is made much smoother by your PCP. You can absolutely refuse to see that hematologist on the basis that she is bad for your health. Seek a new one if you absolutely need one.

Now, get a referral to MD Anderson. There is no point in playing little league when the pro players are right up the road ! Get a specialist, not just a hematologist.





If all else fails, let me know and I will send you some leaches and you can go all old school on it ! Cause I love you that much.

Lol, not the best of news going into my mini vaca, but at the same time it is. It's the beginning of the road to relief!

I'm wanting my family BAD right now. They are all up north because it is school vaca for the kids. I'm half packed at the moment. Trying to decide the smartest plan. I don't like driving at night because I can't see as well, but I can see. I may leave tonight. Idk. lol.

Oh Simple that is why when something very serious at least 2 should be involved kinda surprised your primary did not get results right away either, but our Medical system needs to be thrown out and start over. God is bigger than this mess humans have made .


Dear Heavenly Father we lift up Simple we ask only medical professionals you want helping her be the ones she sees , we ask for healing of Body , Soul and Spirit and this be cast out of her body and never return and help her and her family see You in all this and a hedge of protection around her in Jesus name amen
