Ask friends and family who they have to fix their furnaces, and then contact the company and see if they will let you make payments. Try contacting a church or a local charity and see if they can help. In the meantime, open all curtains when the sun is out, and close them promptly as soon as the sun fades. Put a big pot of boiling water on the stove,and light candles all around the house as long as you do not have pets or small children that can knock them over. We used candles here,but had to be real cautious because of the cats.Candles can put out a substantial amount of heat.If you have an electric clothes dryer, let it vent into the basement or laundry room, as it will help heat up the house. I do have some electric heaters here that I would be glad to share. We have a gel fuel fireplace that we use when the power is out, and it really heats up 2 rooms.
