Deuteronomy 25 was hard , I do not like violence or someone else spit. Verse 3 Forty blows he may give him and no more, lest he should exceed this and beat him with many blows above these, and your brother be humiliated in your sight.
Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:24 Of the J... five times received I forty stripes save one.

Notice beatings reversed , God was trying to keep His first church crime free and then the stripes came for not doing something wrong but for standing in truth.

Verse 8 Then the elders of his city shall call him and speak to him. But if he stands firm and says, ‘I do not want to take her,’ 9then his brother’s wife shall come to him in the presence of the elders, remove his sandal from his foot, spit in his face, and answer and say, ‘So shall it be done to the man who will not build up his brother’s house.’

Again reversal …
Luke 18: 32For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon.

John 9:6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
Even our spit has great meaning in God's Kingdom...
This verse surprised me , 11When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets: 12 Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.

Jesus repeats His Fathers Words in Matthew 5:30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
I use to have trouble with this until I understood to even face this action would make most want nothing to do with that sin.
While we may not understand God's ways as in these passages , He knows the heart and what works.
I am thankful God gave His Son and left us the Holy Spirit so I do not have to spit in anyone face , that Jesus took those stripes for us. God is showing the world with all these coming forward with hidden sin from the past, there is time for repentance and forgiveness. He is also showing us even though we may have done something wrong decades ago. Luke 8:17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
