Joshua 12 and 13 teaches several things. In Chapter 12 we see all the Kings that where over thrown. We have a King and if we followed His manual for life, we would not need an earthly King. Long ago the people decided they wanted an earthly King.
Joshua 13 shows the inheritance being given as promised. I drove in my county yesterday a place few travel. The aftermath of Harvey was still on the curb of the street. When I read Chapter 13, the last passage Jesus is found.
Verse 33 But to the tribe of Levi Moses had given no inheritance; the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as He had said to them.
The poor people I saw yesterday reminded me I long for the inheritance of the Levites not anything this world offers...

1John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
When I feel beat up and defeated by what this world offers, as the people still looking at the curb of loss, I hold on to the inheritance to come. God kept His promise to the people in Joshua and He will keep the One to Come for us...

When I read something like this, it hits me deep. In our group picture at my birthday lunch, there should be one more daughter, but she was stillborn.:) You never forget.

Unfortunately I do understand what you mean by we never forget though. I miscarried twins when I was in my 20's.

I'm so sorry for both of you. My sister had a stillborn baby who was carried to term but died during a spontaneous rupture. He was very beautiful and she keeps a picture of him along with all of her other six children on her mantle.

For Christmas I sent her a statue of a baby sleeping in the wings of an angel. No one else in her family wants to talk about Peter, so I listen and help her remember him.

I don't think the pain and grief will ever leave her, but with God's help she has grown accustomed to it over the decades since his death.

My daughter was carrying twins until one of them just disappeared and was absorbed by her son. She still mourns the loss of the other baby. Her son is being tested for Chimera, which means he has two sets of DNA. This is extremely rare.

My prayers are with both of you, Tiger and Simple. We never forget our little ones. With love, as always.

Joshua 14-17 is all about borders of inheritance . Going all the way back to this story, there has been no greater death and wars, than these invisible lines created to say “this is mine.” Many have pieces of land handed down from generation to generation. Growing up farming I saw this first hand.
Joshua 17:14 Then the children of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, “Why have you given us only one lot and one share to inherit, since we are a great people, inasmuch as the Lord has blessed us until now?”

We never left this mind set even after Jesus came and we are still fighting over borders. Jesus explains the Kingdom of Heaven in Luke 17 :28 Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29 but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

We buy, we sell, we plant and we build , in fact that is what we have made everything about. Jesus explains in that passage what will happen . In Joshua it seems it is about possession of land but it was always about building God's congregation for the Kingdom of Heaven. Everything else will end up as Sodom...
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

So we strive to buy, sell, plant and build what will last. Jesus did away with man made borders and offers us an everlasting inheritence. Romans 12:1-2
