2 Samuel 16 could make it easy for us to feel sorry for David, but even David knows why all this is happening.
Verse 5 He came out, cursing continuously as he came. 6And he threw stones at David and at all the servants of King David. And all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left. 7 Also Shimei said thus when he cursed: “Come out! Come out! You bloodthirsty man, you rogue.

Here is a man, God loved and took care of in the fields as a shepherd. That God trained to take down Goliath. God tried to train David to stay humble in all those years of Saul. Then God gives him all a person could want(the Garden) and he took another man's wife by force , killed her husband , lied and tried to cover it all up.

The story of David is so important in our lives , it reminds us we do not want the things of this world , we are to long for the things in Heaven.
Verse 11 And David said to Abishai and all his servants, “See how my son who came from my own body seeks my life. How much more now may this Benjamite? Let him alone, and let him curse; for so the Lord has ordered him.

Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

God loved David and He loves us. My dad loved us and was strict. We feared his wrath when we did something wrong and we are to fear God . It is hard in our culture to understand this anymore , with “time out, “ as punishment. Our culture certainty has a hard time with all that has happened to David in these chapters . After all , look at all the good the did , right?

Matthew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

We are in a war daily , we have one enemy and he wants to offer all the world has. We only have to look at all the headlines since September 2017, to know this is not our home.

David is being stoned and cursed from a Saul follower . Shimei is being used as a reminder of what David forgot. This man does not understand all David did and suffered to save Saul and not take his life. David says God ordered it , what an amazing man he was really. We live in a world that pays and does all we can to stay out of trouble for things we are guilty of. No one I know likes being punished and most believe God does not punish, as he punished David anymore. That is lie of the enemy.

Jesus came , suffered , was cursed , stones thrown at him , then faced the day of the Cross, for us to live as He lived. We will not be perfect until we are in Heaven, we strive to follow in Jesus's foot steps. Read Hebrews 12 , Jesus was punished for things He did not do. We are punished as a reminder of Who and why Jesus did this.

We are a work in progress till we die. Until Jesus returns this is a war as it was for David. I have never seen a time where we are being taken out of our comfort zones, so hard and fast as of late. David got comfortable , David forgot where all those comforts came from. David forgot Who orders what. David forgot Who sees and knows all. David knows why he is in a mess, we do not ...

Our children now have to walk in a building and think about what gender restroom to go in. Our children have to be tolerant of other gods. Our children live in a world God is not allowed in most places. Our children are in peril because we not only became David, but justify sin. God told us we would enter this time and here we are, in 2 Timothy 3. Suit up with Ephesians 6 , all the guns , nukes , bombs or security, never killed or kept out the enemy of this world. We do not wrestle flesh and blood that shooter yesterday is our Shimei, in this story.

We will have Shimeis for the same reason David did , until this war is over. Listen to what is said, few would ever be as brave as David to understand and take those stones . We do not know or understand what war we are in...I use to have trouble understanding why God loved a man like David, with what he did to Uriah and his family . I now understand David knew what war he was in and Who give orders. David understood from the death of his son to this chapter , Who God is and this punishment is like” time out, “ compared to what he could have received for not repenting...

There are only 2 sides in life David was on God's side , Saul was on satan's. David for a time, forgot this but is being reminded. We are as well, we have to look and see if we are throwing the stones or receiving them with gladness, because we are loved. 2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Shimei was throwing for a dead king...
